I'm a windows guy and I really don't like working on a mac. I have been looking at getting a new camera and also researching the use of an external SSD/HDD recorders (i.e. Atomos etc..). Problem is that most of these external recorders all seem to output to either ProRes or Avid codecs. I don't edit in Avid so that rules that out.

My question is whether or not you can edit in any Windows software with the ProRes codec. From what I can understand, their is no Windows based editing software which can output/render a ProRes file, but what about editing?

thanks

We edit in Premiere Pro on Windows for both DNxHD (free codec download) and ProRes (just install Quicktime - also free).

You will be able to export to DNxHD from Premiere Pro 'as-is' but not ProRes without some additional 3rd party tools.

Either way, you can easily take the footage from external recorders and edit them in Premiere Pro.

Perfect - that is exactly what I wanted to know, cheers
