Has anyone ever seen this before? I know a setup like this has been used alot in mountain bike videos, but what kind of camera is it? The images from it look like 16mm, but I have never seen a 16mm camera that small, except for the aaton a-minima, which I am sure that isnt. Is the box on the non-camera side a battery/counterweight?

It's probably the A-Cam SP16. Pro8mm sells them too.

Pretty expensive though.

there were 16mm helmet cams waaay before the a-cam. they're little wind up box type things. i thing they usually used the little 50' mag loads of 16mm, not 100' spools.

Kodak made a camera that would make a great helmet cam, the K-100. It is spring wound, with the longest run of any of the clockwork cams with around 40 secs I think. It has a C-mount so lenses are plentyful. They show up on E-bay real cheap sometimes. Any DIYer couid modify one into a rocking helmet cam.

check this out.

This is not 16mm, just DV video - but this is the one that I have and it works great. Records to a small Canon Elura40 that I wear in a belt pack.
I'll try and post video later.

wow, that's pretty insane. That is one sweet camera though. In my dreams. Anyways, the money would be better spent toward the purchase of an HVX *DROOL*

the a-cam is fresh in some ways, but it has some serious shortcomings, imo. non-reflex. big bummer. it basically only works with a 10mm wide angle lens. they don't have a rangefinder for any other focal length. next, even though it runs at crystal speeds, it's way too loud for sync work. for that money, i'd get a bolex for handheld mos work with tons of frame rates, and an eclair acl for sync-sound work. (or an hvx.)
