hmmmm...
Gotta question the overall premise. So the movie is called Dying is Painful. And the movie features a guy moping around a city, smoking alot of ciggarettes. So I can figure out that he is sad. Because someone died - right? Now that's all I see. It felt like the "regret" montage in a Hollywood melodrama/action flick, but without any of the setup (partner or whoever dying) or the payoff (getting revenge or coming to terms).
In addition to having this very narrow premise that expects emotional response without any buildup into caring about the character, the camera work contantly called attention to itself. The zoom (was it a digital zoom) was very distracting, as was the heavy noise in some of the night shots. While I can be convinced those type of elements can be acceptable for certain reasons, with this simple plot it serves as a distraction and attention caller to the camera itself. This self consious type of camera work, readily identifies the actor as aware of the camera. Thus any emotional brooding as we see here becomes even heavier handed. I hope I'm being clear.
Still you did have some nice framing and composition. Keep on filmin!

I'm thinking about making a documentary of my D.I.P viewing experience. Perhaps I'll call it W.T.S.W.P. (watching this short was painful). ;)
Nicely put together, it just begins to drag a little. Perhaps I'll smoke a bowl or two and watch it again. :)

I know! You could use this for an anti smoking campiagn, like, Smoking Kills!! or something to that affect (or effect, I don't know, I always slept through english class). Anyway it reeeealy dragged (no pun, you know cause of all the ciggarettes). And that thing about the camera being the main character, yeah.... I .. didn't quite understand what you were talking about, but ok. All that really matters is if you, the creator of the film (if you trally want to call it that) like it, right?
