Hey All,

While back I was askin for crew to help out with the shoot I was doing for an actor in Southern California. Luckily for me Troy and Ken voulenteered to help us out on a 2 night shoot out in the freezing cold going above and beyond the call of duty.

The shoot went well considering we had about 3 days to put the entire thing together and 2 nights to shoot it with minimal equipment. Unfortunatly, for reasons I dont think ill ever figure out our footage came out about 2 - 3 stops darker than we shot it which whas arleady pretty highly contrasted so it has made for some interesting work in post production. So you will have to forgive me if the stills look a bit grainy or have some color banding issues in them, the nightmare of brightening DV footage.

It looks very cool but alittle grainy. It has that golden tint to it. I would like to see that fight sequence. About the grain, you can get rid of it with grain surgery.

I wouldnt know how much of a favorite it is since I have been so engrossed with finishing this project as well as my documentary at the same time... but the age old saying certainly may apply, everyone loves a good ole fashioned fight!

And thanks for the comments compliments suggestions :P

As an afterthought I like the grain too. In my opinion it looks more like film if it has a little grain in.

Question: Did you use any makeup in these shots?

Not all the characters got makeup, but anyone who had a close up did have makeup done.

Looks nice (The dame too!)

Any chance the camera was set to defualt -3 stops under on the iris? Still, I like it. Looks more natural in a good way. Glad it worked out.

Hey John,

I honestly was really busy working with the cast and getting lights set up and choreography set so I didnt spend a ton of time on the cameras them selves. So Im not sure if it was set to -3 under iris. Would that make the recorded footage darker than what you see in the viewfinder/LCD and on external play back monitors? If so that could explain it because as far as we knew our footage was exposed correctly but when we digitized it was all much darker.

The cameras where set to -3 iris. However, we shot everything manual iris. Would this still cause it to be darker once it is recorded?

My camera was @ 1/24 shutter and Ken's was 1/48th. For some reason it was the only way would could get the 2 cameras to match up.

Good stills Shawn...
