View Full Version : Error Importing Avi footage into AE 6.5 (Mac)
I captured footage from a firestore onto a fat32 hdd. Now I'm trying to import it into After Effects but it shades it out (meaning its not a supported file type). Knowing that AVI is a container format, I tried changing the extension to .mov to no success. The clip plays fine in quicktime 7. What am i doing wrong? Do i need to convert the footage?

Changing the extension does NOT change the actual file.
If QT 7 can display it then you coudl just export it from QT Player into a more standard format.

First of all, in your Import File window select "Enable: All Footage Files" (at the top) so that all video files will become available and not greyed-out. If it still won't import .avi , import any .mov file first and then it will accept anything else. Works for me.
thanks xl70e3, that worked.
do you know WHY you have to have a .mov in the project before you can import avi? it seems stupid to me.

No idea. Got my Mac 1,5 months ago and faced the same problem as you. Good thing is I don't deal with .avi anymore, it was only a problem when I needed to use footage from my PC.
