sorry, I took these 3 weeks after I received the dvx. Most of the camera crews tripped out because they never seen the 24p before. It got some attention there. Dan Abrams(MSNBC) actally made a comment about the camera. "Wow, whats that?".

Oh, I get it. How cool. Did they get mad that you were snooping about w/ your camera?

Snooping around with your camera. *That's all the news crews do. *Look at them, sitting outside, waiting for any news scraps to be thrown out the door. *Spider was just focusing his camera on the people who focus their cameras on others. It's not a camera, it's a mirror. If the news crews didn't like it then it's because they don't enjoy seeing their own reflection. *;D
Seriously, typically news cameramen are pretty cool. If they have free time they'll show you everything. They'll maybe even let you drive the truck.

My experience with cameramen (DP's for that matter) have been positive. Always willing to chat or share knowledge.
In SF this ummer, I ran into a crew shooting HD 24p and we chatted about progressive and the baby brother (DVX100).
On another feature, Howard Wexler (DP of quite a bit of films) I worked on it; but he took the time to give me hands on lighting, camera, etc. Great guy.
Directors are usually assholes though (so the moral guys here is; dont be an ass when you finally make it, okay?)

Actually no one minded only cause I worked with one of the stations. Most of the camera guys there were really cool. Yep, John, representing the DVX!

sleeeek
I have a question about the DVX (since I don't have one yet). The truck in the first shot looks washed out. Is there enough information captured by the camera to salvage any detail from that in post or is it too late at that point? And does anyone know of any quantitative figures that compare the latitude of exposure for a DVX (or even the cinealtas) with various types of film?
Thanks,
Mike

I compared some footage from the 24p and their 50,000 dollar camera and what do you know, 24p tops it. For a mini dv format, that's pretty impressive. It also depends on the cameraman, whether they know how to shoot.

This is off topic (as is usual for me), but to comment on people's impression of the camera:
When I was shooting up in Shenandoah National Park, a couple working for Voice of America TV (an engineer and a producer) asked me if I was working for National Geographic. My NG baseball cap confused the hell out of them, but I guess the combination of that plus the camera plus nice tripod made even the TV people think I was a pro.
Morale of the story is: Yes, the DVX does boost your image - especially if you have something nice to show with it.
