The three mainstream NLE systems. Vegas.....Premier.....Final Cut Pro

-Which do you think is better, and why?

-Which do you use (if all, which mostly)?

-Differences and similarities between the three?

-Which above all is the 'best' for an editor to use in his arsenal of a powerfull editing system?

-Which is most compatible to 3rd party plugins and extentions?

I cant think of anymore questions....

The reason i ask these questions is because I'm curious is what most editors use in today's world, and why they choose that particular NLE.

I have a Ziess MovieSope Viewer, a pair of HFC longshaft rewinds, a Movieola 4-gang synchornizer with three sound heads hooked to a Movieola squawk box and a Cirro combination straight/diagonal guilltine tape splicer. I transfer all my video to film and all my audio to mag stock for editing.

Just kidding. I use FCP. However, this topic has been beaten to death. Check the threads, please.

industry standard is avid and fcp. (i believe)

on the other hand, it doesn't matter what nle you use. like bluespider says, he use's windows movie maker and imovie. that doest take anything away from his production. when you get into cc and cg then you might want to consider another platform.

No, no. You guys have it ALL wrong. You need a vLab motion. Yup. That's right. Based on the Motorola 040 processor and standard definition architecture built on top of an Amiga core OS. That will teach you. Oh yes it will. Wait.. what? You mean it isn't 1994? Oops. Nevermind.

I use Vegas for everything but color correcting... I perform my correction in After Effects 6.5 Via Color Finesse plug-in... But i use my VHS deck for some wild effects man!

Sometimes, I can hear the "clunk" just by reading some posts around here. :)

I use what is affordable for me, compatible with my system, and capable of doing more than I can understand..... and pretty much in that order, too. But you were directing this question to our editors, not just people who edit. I'm no editor, not by a long shot. I just like to come here and post. heh!! I thought buying the camera was just a pre-requisite to that end.

I think they all do the same thing and it really comes down to comfort level. I've been jumping around with my nle. Used premiere for awhile, just started trying out Vegas. I've cut on final cut. All just tools. I have no loyalty to an app anymore. If it runs smooth and fast and gets the job done, I'll use it. It's kind of fun switching, keeps the process interesting.

I used premiere til the trial ran out, then I switched to Vegas til the trial ran out. Now I edit in camera til the battery runs out, then I'm gonna take up oil painting.

I had only dabbled in Premiere prior to choosing Vegas as my NLE. The main reason being 24p Nativity. You know what?

It is the easiest; user friendly, makes sense, nothing that cant be done software I have ever used.

I keep reading how easy Vegas is to use and think WOW, I must have picked up Vegas for rocket scientists or something. I can't get my head around the workflow. I think I have to delete my copy of Premiere, put the Cd on the railroad tracks like an old penny, and force myself to get a grip on this software.

Am I the only one still using a razor, ruler, magnifying glass, and magnetic powder?
