Are all six of those lensed with the DVX? You've got the pacing and visuals down for sure.

It's nice to see the extra effort to set up some tracking passes and static set ups mixed with more typical handheld / shakecam stuff too. There's a little too much of the latter in fast, hard music videos - so props to you guys for resisting that cliche.

Good color where there is supposed to be, good desaturation without overexposure where you intended it to be as well. If you ever need a shooter and package in North Carolina, I think we could play very nicely together.

Cheers,

which is it? I'm watching all of them. Are these all dvx? They look really good, u have a knack for lighting these concert shots for video, whithout it looking like it was lit FOR the video, lol hard to explain, anyway, really proffesional stuff, could easily see any of this on mtv. IS any of it on mtv?

IDOG

Great job! Some of the best I've seen yet. (was your name inspired by Killswitch engage). Anyways, what settings did you use for the All That remains video? Any different lenses used or anything?

IDOG
01-07-2005, 04:56 PM
No, actually we had the name before them. They are good dudes though. And a good band. We are from the same town BOSTON.
The All That Remains video was shot in F5 and at 1/120 shutter speed. No special lenses or anything. I lit it with my partner and our crew was a total of 2 people.

I just flashed backed to my wee days as a skater (although the Death Metal sound is the worst thing to happen to rock since rap). Nice work and good to see some DVX Action being aired regulary on the networks.

I loved

The Unseen
"False Hope"

(Cool song as well)

nice,
how old is Roger and Vinnie in Agnostic Front?
they must like 50 years old now.
I used to be into them back in like....late 80's....and can't believe they are still around and playing the same music!!!
so does Slap Shot, I still remember their sXe chant.
ah, good old days...

Boston, Mass. is the rippen'ist town
Don't smoke, don't drink, don't fuck around
Kill anyone with a beer in their hand
'Cause if you drink you're not a man
Straight-edge, Straight-edge in your face
You don't belong in the human race
;D

Roger is 44 and Vinnie is 49. They are good dudes man. We just shot their first ever Live DVD at CBGB's with 5 DVX 100s and all 24p at 1/120 shutter. The audio has been mixed into 5.1 surroundsound. It sounds sick as HELL!!!

Awesome stuff.

Question: How do you handle focusing when you are filming on stage? Are you locking down for a specific distance, keepnig that distance, and just zooming in/out?

IDOG

I do it on the fly. index, thumb and ring finger

nothing against old skool HC guys.
more respect for having integrity and playing HC all these years. unlike many of my friends who used to be HC bands but now totally yuppies or losers.
Roger gave me a free AF tshirt during One Voice tour(back in college) and I still have it somewhere. ;)

very nice videos.
would buy DVDs if they come out.

Sometimes I lock down but not offen. And all those are mock shows. The band was lipsyncing and the people in the crowd each had a job. SOme were to stand there and some were to mosh in a designated area. It was very controlled. But still crazy. and a lot of fun.

Hey,

I know I pretty much have the eye for making music videos but I was wondering how you go about completing one?

Do you just get them to lipsync the song like 20 times and you get your 20 different angles each time they sing the song 20 songs? Then you get your coverage? How do you make sure everything is in sync because there is some lag time usually between (assuming they are listening to the song when you are shooting) hearing and then singing what they just heard.

How does it all work and what do the pros do? I'd like to know so I can advertise doing music videos. Do you just try to sync up quick eyecandy clips with the original song in post..making sure their lips match the song?

Any suggestions would be great!

Cheers,

Norm

Thanks man, really. And by the way, I grew up in Maine. I used to put on all the Hardcore shows from 93-98. Till I moved to Boston. I put on most of the shows in Portland-Brunswick. I still go up a lot.

DOPE, DOPE, DOPE!!!

One little question, how did you submit, or Git yur videos on MTV2?
or was that the labels?

Mucho thanks sicko Amigo

IDOG
01-09-2005, 11:08 AM
The labels take care of that. They do need to be submitted on Digibeta Tapes and already close captioned. Not cheap to do.

Werd-
Digi-Beta is Bomb! (compression,quality,etc.)
you know Defcon 4?

close captioned is with words scrolling at bottom?

PS- I noticed on the Hated and Proud video, you got vertical green lines?,
Crank down the iris a little and with eliminate vertical lines, but you probably
know that by now-

cool ... there's some really good stuff goin down in NJ right now...I'm shooting Zombie Apocalypse again later this month (guys from Shai Halud / Try Fail Try). Smokin band. Hit me with an email ... we can talk shop and tastey hardcore grindcore ...

Closed captioned? Man that would be great because I couldn't make out a single word on All That Remains. It's a style of music that I have a hard time understanding the singers, although I like the intensity of the music itself. The video's cooked though. Man, Sam Kinison would have been a great lead singer for that style. ;D

Oh man IDOG, that shit rules. I've just shot a hardcore video for unsigned band 'A Blood Red Summer' I've also shot a video for gorerotted, Im based over here in UK so I dont have contend with competition from geniuses like you guys,
Its fucking amazing to see some hardcore/grind directors on here, I want to branch out into rap and stuff, but I love metal/hardocore films, the last one I shot has raining blood and a guitar spin YES!.

We should exchange msns or something.

I'll link you to my online showreel when it goes up, which should be within the week.

anyway, good work man, look out xdoanex.

Peace,
Adam Powell.

01-13-2005, 12:17 PM
haha its harcore as f**K!
I wanna shoot a video in the middle of a pit. like the slipknot video but with more violence.
a shoulder height view of a full blown mosh pit. dunno if i wanna take my dvx there, but gorerotted talked about shooting a grimey 8mm video, dirty room fighting I'll call it.
what do you reckon? haha.

I love this website I get to talk to a dude whos worked with Agnostic Front and Terror.

jealous!

IDOG

Adam, Sounds sick! But you should come up with something a little more original. That band Gorerotted is too good of a band for that. You need to make a mini movie with their music as the soundtrack. Think of it that way. Something you would not picture them doing.

IDOG
01-14-2005, 05:32 AM
Thank you all for your cool comments on this threat.
You have all made my day.

Adam_Powell
01-14-2005, 09:30 AM
ok, you got it, Im gonna dress them up as ice creams.

naw gorerotted suggested that film, I wanted to do exactly what you said, make a mini movie texas chainsaw video style, with a leatherhead style dude chasing a girl around with the band playing in different rooms as she runs past.

then tim was like "lets get a dirty room like the prodigy video and start a mosh pit"

the chainsaw concept is not very original I know, but Im not trying to change the world just yet. at the moment people come to me and are like "i wanna make a film" and im like "yes, well I saw a director do this, I wanna do something like that"

eventually I think I'll start doin some crazy shits.

I dont know maybe thats weird to not want to be 100% original, but I'm just sort of warming up to "THIS VIDEO MUST DESTROY HEARTS AND MINDS!"

know what i mean?
