Whenever I try to export MXF files from the C300 it won't work. I've tried various different ways and can't seem to find any help on it.
If anyone here uses CS6 and MXF files can you talk me through your exporting process? It's frustrating me so much, I'll even put money in your paypal account if you can fix the problem.

Thanks if you can help
Will

1) What do you mean, export from the C300? Are you trying to get the footage from the camera?

2) When asking, it would be a good idea to explain what you've already tried, with as much detail as you can.

3) The latter part of the post makes it seem as though you're trying to export from Premiere. What exactly do you want to do?

Apologies. I didn't say export from the C300, I said export MXF files. MXF files from the C300. I've tried exporting from CS6 in all the logical combinations. Importing them as MXF files exporting in various formats and settings. They start to export, get all the way to the end and then freeze and it fails.

You mean "import from the C300?" That would be the proper way to phrase the process, not "export from C300."

Are you using the Media Browser inside Premiere to import the media?

Okay thanks. Err, I drag and drop my files into the timeline. Could that be the problem?

I don't know if it works the same way for the C300 but for the P2 cams. I navigate in the MXF structure, go into the video subdirectory and drag the those files into the project. Never tried going right to timeline.

OK, look. You're asking your questions in ways that no one's going to be able to help you, because no one knows what exactly you want to do, what you've tried, and what went wrong.

You're saying "exporting MXF files from the C300." When you say "from the C300," most people are going to think you mean getting the footage you shot FROM the camera and into your computer. That's what you do when you "export," and export "from" something.

If you mean "export" from Premiere in the MXF format the C300 uses, then you need to be that specific, because if you aren't, you're describing something different than what you actually want. And I don't actually know if that's what you mean; I'm just guessing. If that's what you mean, then it doesn't really make sense that you've tried various formats, because you should be attempting only the one. So, what DO you mean?

When you say you've tried exporting in "all the logical combinations" and "various formats and settings," that does not help. You need to say exactly what you did. You could have done anything, and to be honest, given the last couple of posts, you may well not have done the actual "logical" thing. If you want us to be able to diagnose what might be wrong, we need as much information as possible. Be specific.

You say that the export "freezes" and "fails," but you don't say if there's any kind of error message, or give us any kind of real description of what happens.

There are literally hundreds, perhaps thousands, of factors which could be at play here. No one can help you if there's only wild guessing as to what you did.

So . . .

What exactly do you want to do?

What exactly is your footage? Frame rate? Bit rate? What are all of the recording settings? I don't mean anything about picture settings -- color, gamma, etc -- I mean recording format settings.

What exactly did you do to get the footage into Premiere? Take it step by step, including how you connected the camera to the computer, or how you read the card. Then, explain how you imported it into the project.

What sequence template did you use?

How did you go about exporting, and what exact settings did you try?

What exactly is the error when it fails?

Thanks for being patient, Sir David Jimerson III. I will now attempt to "answer" the questions YOU have asked.

I want to be able to edit and then export MXF files from CS6.

The footage was given to me by a fellow forum user. I was given various clips, some 24p some 30p. I'll use one clip as an example - Video: 29.97 fps, 1920 x1080 (1.0)... Audio: 48000Hz - 16-bit - Mono

Refer to pictures 1 and 2 on how I start the process.

I then go to File and Import, select the clip and then add it to the timeline.

Then I go to File and export media. See picture 3 for the settings.
Then it comes up with a error report and says 'unknown error'.

OK. First of all, you have it set to export an .mp4 file, not an MXF file. Is that what you want? It also doesn't match the C300 footage format, which is MPEG-2, not H.264. If you're wanting to export in the same format -- MXF and the same codec -- as the C300 records, this isn't the correct template.

Second, under Basic Video Settings, you don't have it scrolled down far enough to see what the Field Order is. What is it?

Third, what do you intend to do with the clips -- as in, why do you want to export in the format you're exporting in? There may be a better option for what you want to do.

I suppose it doesn't matter what format it ends up being, I just want it to be the highest quality possible. Field order is progressive.

Which, and what kind of, drive are you exporting this to?

My internal hard drive, don't know what model it is.

Usually, if there's a problem like this, it's a hardware issue.

Are you exporting to the same drive you have your software and your footage on? (Do you have only one internal drive?)

Is this a laptop drive? 5400 RPM, possibly?

I found a step-by-step guide to import to MXF Premiere Pro CS5/CS4 for edit:

Hope it will help you.
