Hi all,

I'm reasonably new to filming and have gotten into it as I have a passion for fishing and wish to capture my catches on film.

I have got myself a JVC Everio GZ-HM1 which I think is quite a good camera for me. I have added some lenses, plenty of extra batteries, and a basic wireless lapel mic setup. Iv'e filmed a couple of short fishing videos by myself, but wish to get into doing more filming rather then the fishing.
I have a very basic crap tripod which I am looking at upgrading to a fluid head tripod soon. Any recommendations? I'm happy to spend extra to get something that's good. I'd need something reasonable compact, durable, can handle getting wet and very fluid...??

Also, any recommendations for some sort of waterproofing? not so much for underwater use, but just to keep bad weather off it???

Looking forward to learning a lot more.

Cheers.

Bloke! Great to see you on here!

Have you considered a monopod instead of a tripod? WAY more compact, cheaper, and you can also do some slider-type shots with it. The Manfrotto 561 is a great monopod.

There are waterproof bags that you can get to keep the weather from reaching the camera. They're not cheap. I have been relying more on my GoPro cameras because I don't have to worry at all about weather, and I can dunk them underwater for some interesting shots.

You can see some of our fly fishing films at https://vimeo.com/channels/flatlanderflyfishing or follow us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/FlatlanderFlyFishing.

Please share some of your fishing films! I waste quite of bit of my time watching all kinds of fishing movies - would love to see yours!

And, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome Mike.

I never thought of a mono pod, but now after a little research it could be something I would seriously think of getting.
I have been contemplating a hero2 for a while now and most likely will get one soon. I think I will just have to bite the bullet and get a water resistant bag for the everio though.
Great little video there too! Here is one of mine I did a while back... pretty rough but had a lot of fun doing it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR-IWfLpG3A&feature=channel&list=UL
