Hello,

in the process of editing a short, i have to fix the following audio issue: i want the left channel to go both sides (in all spoken parts, since while recording i was keeping the ext boom mic on left input only while keeping the right for the internal mic as a backup / ambient noise). But i realized i just want the boom sound. That means i have to take what's in the left channel and duplicate it in both channels (obtaining a mono).

- What's the quickest and smartest way in premiere?

I couldnt find any stereo-> mono filter (if configurable, that's what i need).
The best way i can think of at the moment is to pan the balance all to the left, then duplicate the audio on another track where i apply the swap channels filter. but this doesnt support modifications, i.e. i have to do it as a final step.

Thanks All
Andrea

Use the Audio Effect - 'Fill Left' ( means fill the right channel with the left)

Another way is to select the clip in the project window and go to Edit->Audio->Breakout to mono. You'll then have have left and right broken out in the project window.

Thanx Ransom - did not know about that one and I will take a look at it also. I assume it makes a separate track for left and right from the original ???

Ransom - why is the option greyed out when I try what you suggest ?

ie. select clip in timeline - Clip Menu - Audio Options -

Also forgot to add. To make the new left or right audio clip to be treated like stereo, select it in the project window and go back to Edit->Audio and select "Treat as Stereo". But you probably figured this out by now.

Yes, your method works much better because it seems when you just use the "fill" effect the levels are much lower.
