The JVC SRDVD-100 ProHD-campatible DVD-player is quite an interesting turn in this story. I only wonder wether JVC will launch it in Europe as well (and how soon), because for me that would make a reason to choose the GY-HD100E over the GY-HD101E.

Problem is. Is this a standard that's going to stay or is it just another temporary phase (until HD-DVD and BlueRay-DVD, that probably won't be compatible again... )....

Well, if JVC is the only company supporting it, I can't see it making it to the masses. This DVD player seemes directly focused at those that will be buying proHD cameras, not the clients of these people. So I guess you will at least be able to watch your own footage, but nobody else will.

Maahhh, good point....

Wouldn't it be nice that in the new standards (like HD-DVD and BlueRay-DVD), they would implement compatibility with these "intermediate" solutions? That way, the people that can't wait (like me...), can start already....

Actually, come to think of it: people that can't wait are those who make it worthwile for the producing companies... (their future clients). They should pay us more respect :-)

mezelf27--

A possible short-term affordable option before BluRay and HD-DVD are available is encoding HD-WM9
files and using the $250US Avel LinkPlayer for playback. Seems "good enough" for now.

Try a search on this board for more info as it has been discussed before. Hope this helps.

That JVC appears to be the same as the Avel Linkplayer, or at least based on it.

Still would like to hear reports from someone who's used one. The only report I've read said that the video from the 480p outputs was indistinguishable from the same video played through the 720p outputs, which means it either does an incredible job of up-rezzing 480p, or it does a lousy job of 720p. Sure would like to know which...

I would tend to agree with your assessment. :)

I know.... there's just one huge problem: The SD-part of this thing is NTSC. It hasn't much use in Europe. If there was only something available in PAL, I would buy it without any hesitation. Does anyone know wether there's a PAL-solution to this?
