I teach English as a second language, so I'm dying to correct your grammar. :)

From what I hear, every person and every critic would disagree with you. I'm fairly certain Sin City is Bruce Willis's best work in the past 3 years.

Ummm, actually, it indeed was a very good movie, PK. Excellent cinematography, acting by Willis and Foster, very moody score, interesting script, just about everything was great. It is not for everyone, though - it's very different from your typical holywood action/thriller. The guy who directed it has a big future, I'm sure.
Oh and the opening titles were amazing :) Just wait for review from John tonight.

I will def do a review; Hudson style.

I did like Tears of the Sun however but agree Bruce hasn't doen too much in the last few years worth mentioning (Haven't seen Sin City). Hart's War was just terrible; one of the more boring films I have ever watched; such a let-down from the previews and the WHOLE NINE/TEN YARDS films I never dug.

Hostage got slammed by critics for being overly violent, and also as a rehash of all his Die Hard films. I really saw no comparisons to Die Hard. The violence is there, but I personally didn't find it too much.

I saw it in a packed theater, and everyone, including myself and my girlfriend seemed to enjoy the film.

It's say it's a 2 1/2 - 3 stars out of five. Definitely a renter, won't be your favorite movie, but should be worth the price of the rent.

John, if you are renting this, I say rent the new Assault of Precinct 13(if you haven't seen it), think you'll like that one more than Hostage.

As for Bruce Willis. For the most part every celebrity has a rollercoaster ride of a career. Sometimes everything is peachy other times you are nonexistant. He's doing okay though, still gets lead roles that make it to the theatre. The Whole Nine Yards movies were pieces of crap! I haven't even watched the second one but I can tell you it's a piece of crap just from the previews. The only thing good about it at all was a topless Amanda Peet.

Willis did kick ass in Sin City.

I agree with Stabb on the assessment after viewing it. I personally did not fnd it 'Overly Violent' but was surrprised that it was that violent; make sense? I knew when they opened with 'Executed Children' and a "Cop Killer' I was in for a treat.

This is definately worth renting. This is nothing like Die Hard; so some kidnappers have hostages in a house? Gimme a break; it is nothing like DIE HARD nor his his character like John McLane.

I enjoyed the DP Work and style; lot's of moving camera in this one and the coloring was nice as well. I liked it and agree; 3 Hudson Stars. Totaly worth watching. Totaly justified Rental and I'm not sure'd be bitter if I paid at the theatre given the crap list of films out lately.

The opening Titles are inspiring. Haven't seen that before. It raises the opening title design bar a bit.

I did see ASSUALT and liked that one as well Stabb. A Topless Amanda Peet? That might be worth a rental? Nawwwwwwww; Ill just Google it.

I hope you're right because in France, Florent Siri, the director of Hostage hadn't been acclaimed for his work (I didn't see it)

This is the same situation for Jean-Francois Richet (director of Assault on Precinct 13).
He was saying recently that he had received much more screnplays from Hollywood than from France after Assault !!

John, since you liked Assault and Hostage, watch The Nest by Siri. It's basically a french remake of the 70s Assault, made a couple of years before the recent one, and is arguably better. Very intense and very nice visually.

Didn't the director of Sin City direct the adventures of sharkboy and lavagirl?...Still think he has a big future?

This movie was just alright. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Bruce was pretty decent.

Opening credits, while I remember them being cool didn't really have anything to do with the movie's plot or it's style...if I am remembering correctly and therefor what's the point?

Worth a rent if you need your fill of Willis for the night. And I am in the 2.5/5 stars area as well.

i thought this was a pretty good movie, i enjoyed it the whole way through. another good willis action flick. but the titles, although they looked cool, seemed out of place. like lyons-den said, it didn't fit the feel of the movie and was just distracting.

Your point? Rodriguez is making Sin City 2 now, so that Shark boy crap didn't hurt him any, just like none of the Spy Kids movies did.
As for Siri, he has only made 2 films and I happen to like both. Plus, they both were quite successful.

I saw Hostage on dvd and was very entertained. It was better than I expected. Lately I've been really hated the movies I rented and so enjoyed watching something that wasn't bad, like Assault on Precint 13 which was dumb and boring.

I haven't seen Sin City but i will when its on dvd. Bruce is a very talented actor, i noticed that when he had a very small on role on 1 or 2 episodes of miami vice (before moonlighting).

echoing what was mentioned before, actors sometimes make stupid movies and some probably think it will be good, but the directors and producers mess it all up (i didn't mention editors because I figure they don't have the final say on what gets out to the public).

Some of the effects in hostage seemed kinda weak (fire at the end). maybe i'll rent it again just for kicks.
