View Full Version : Prime lens kit, which focal length options would you prefer?
Hi guys,
We've just picked up a new 6-lens set of CP.2s (21mm, 25mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm & 85mm) which we'll be renting out when not using them ourselves. But with the announcement of the new 15mm and 135mm additions to the CP.2 lineup, I'm thinking of selling the 25mm and adding one of the new lenses to extend the range of the set.
So I'm wondering which combination holds more appeal to people in general - a 15mm, 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm & 85mm set, or a 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm & 135mm set?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

It's gonna be Full Frame shooters vs S35 (and smaller) shooters. 15mm is no good to FF users, but crop sensor users will want it. Who will be the majority of your customers?
I'm expecting a bit of a mix really. The lenses are PL-mount, but I'm going to get EF mounts for them as well so that I can cater to C300 and 7D/5D shooters looking for reasonably-priced cinema glass.
I would doubt the likelihood of 5D/full-frame being the majority of customers though. I'd expect F3 and C300 shooters to form the majority (those cameras seem to most closely match the CP.2 price point, performance-wise). Though perhaps Blackmagic Camera shooters might form a possible customer base too (if I go the 15mm route at least).

I'd go for the 15mm (or 18mm) and maybe offer full frame renters a discount for one less lens.

I'm an S35 shooter and still voted on the second option (21-135). That is partly on taste, as I prefer longer lenses (my widest is a 22 and works perfect for me).

If the 18mm CP.2 were faster, better and covered Full-Frame, it'd be a no-brainer for me, I'd go 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm. But with the current line-up of lenses, I worry that 15-25mm is too big a jump on the wide-end (from ultra-wide to mid-wide) so I'm thinking I'll keep the 21mm and hold off on the 135mm for the time-being.

Seems reasonable.
