Here is one on amazon.es for EUR1686 - but it says there's only one left and it is imported from Germany: http://www.amazon.es/Panasonic-DMC-GH2-Objetivo-14-140mm-importado/dp/B004445O36?tag=battleforthew-20

The GH2 has had supply chain challenges worldwide since it rolled out in Fall of 2010, but there has been no announcement (that I'm aware of) that it has been discontinued.

The GH3 is not announced yet - the consensus seems to be that Photokina in Berlin this fall is when it will roll out - but the consensus has sometimes been wrong.

Cheers,

Bill

If I were you, I'd wait until NAB (April 14-19) (http://www.nabshow.com/2012/default.asp) this year before buying any cameras. In just two weeks the types of cameras available may be very different than what we have right now.

I really don't get it. Why are people saying it's not available? It's available right there, on the largest internet retailer in the world, Amazon. And pleeenty of other places! So let's get our facts straight first, good god.

EDIT: oh, I see the OP was making an April 1 joke.

O.C.. - I don't think he was joking. I have seen this "GH2 is discontinued" meme in at least one other place. See this posting from a couple of weeks ago on dpreview, which I pushed back against immediately: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1045&message=40904355

I don't know what the reason is, but this rumor is out there, despite the fact that both times people have said this, I have been able to go to Amazon Germany or Austria or UK or US or Spain and find the camera in stock in a couple of minutes.

I don't know where this is coming from, but why do people think Panasonic would discontinue a camera that is the #5 compact system camera on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics/3109924011) without a replacement in the pipeline?

I hope it's just misinformation - and not disinformation.

Cheers,

Bill

Actually the GH2 with 14-42 lens was listed as "discontinued" on B&H's website for about a week, then mysteriously re-appeared.

I have also seen reference to the GH2 being discontinued, but that was with the 14-140 lens. So I think it might be some of the "kits" and not the body, specifically, that is going away.

I noticed that B&H is again saying the kit w the 14-140 is "discontinued (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/736362-REG/Panasonic_DMC_GH2HK_Lumix_DMC_GH2_Digital_Camera.h tml)" - while it is still available at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Interchangeable-Free-Angle-14-140mm-Black/dp/B0043VE31O?tag=battleforthew-20), Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_133GH2HK/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-GH2K-Kit.html?source=pjn&subid=65380), OneCall (http://www.onecall.com/product/Panasonic/DMC-GH2HK-Kit/Digital-Camera/_/R-107928?BCPID=9040), and elsewhere (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Panasonic+GH2+14-140&hl=en&safe=off&cid=4487250393447863382&os=sellers). To paraphrase Mark Twain, 'reports of the GH2/14-140 kit's death have been greatly exaggerated."

Panasonic lists it as "available at your favorite retailer".

Yes B&H has the 14-140 kit Discontinued (this item has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available), I bought mine at the NYC store (same kit) two weeks ago on 3/18...I guess I got the last one!!

Panny listed the GH2 with beater 14-42 lens on their Facebook Fans Deal page for $650 ++ last night. I bought then when it showed 1-3 days delivery. Now it shows 4 weeks, same price, longer lead time. Amazon and Samy's both list that kit now at $749.....so something is up. My guess, thinning the channel to make way for GH3s coming this fall.

GH2 is on sale at B&H for 749.00, do you think it's worth waiting on a GH3 announcement or should I just pull the trigger on the GH2?

Awesome! Can't wait to see what they have in store for the GH3. May just need to upgrade my GH1.

This happened last year as well. The GH1s were $375 with lens on the Facebook fan page after the GH2s were announced. You could wait for the announcement and see how much prices drop.

I got a GH2 with 14-42mm lens at the end of last year for $699 from B&H.

The fire sales come and go, but perhaps we are nearing the end of the cycle and we'll see a replacement soon.

I popped the night the offer hit on Panny's Facebook page. At that time shipping was "1-3 days" and the next day it said "4 weeks". That tells me that Panny offered this deal and had far more interest than they possibly projected. You don't run a deal on stuff you don't even have in the country yet! My guess is, they blew through what was on the shelf so fast it probably made their heads spin.

The GH1 blow outs, those I think were different than we are going to see with the GH2. I have a pair of GH1s that were built 4 months after the GH2 was announced. That tells me the reasons no one got GH2s right away was Panny was still busy building out their GH1 parts inventory.

What's different this time over the GH1? During the GH2 life Japan had the earthquake. If anyone has been watching the lens supply situation you have seen that Panny still doesn't have the supply channel completely filled back up.

So I am thinking that this time around we may not see the fire sale $300 cameras we saw with the GH1 blowout. In fact, this $650 might be somewhere close to the bottom.

Interesting that the big olympics campaign on Panasonic site "Introducing New 2012 Lumix Cameras" features all the old models from ILC category (gf3, g3, gh2, ...).

I'd like to see 1080 60p, but even just being able to monitor to an external monitor when shooting 720 60p would be a huge improvement. As it is now, it's kind of the only real PITA that I have with the gh2..... I shoot a lot of stuff at 60p. That news Sony that's capable of 240fps for bursts.. Now that's sweet. A GH3 that does that would be the cats meow!
