Just put up the trailer for an indie flick i'm working on. Nothing fancy. Just a DVX100 and people with heart. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

thanks kova...sorry no scenes to post yet. it's a mixture of actors and friends and a first feature length for all of us with the exception of one crew member. the story is of four friends who move from maine to nyc to pursue individual goals and how they relate to each other when things go to hell. the prescription drug industry and their misleading tactics are involved as well but i don't want to spoil it. it's a truly humbling experience for me and hopefully the flick inspires others to express their artistic identities as well.

Rik,
You guys worked that DVX! Can't wait to see this. Couple of questions?
How long was preproduction / principal photography?
What format did you shoot - is that the anamorphic adap. in that still?
What was your average crew size and how did you handle physical production days with little or no budget?
Any post-production tips and hints on how you are finalizing the end product would be appreciated!
Great looking stuff,
e

Thank you for the kind words. Pre-production took 7 months with writing and rehearsals. The leads had a great response since they were able to contribute ideas for their characters and had a chance to play around for a bit. No anamorphic, just cropped in post but we worked the wide angle. Average cast and crew size is about 8. Physical production is tough because we have no money. My best post-production tip? Vegas is a really underrated program.

the VO sounded a bit horror-film-like and the trailer looked like a (really f***in good) adult drama. the VO seems out of place.

Methinks you're being a little modest, this production is well put together from every aspect and angle. The graphics are very nice. The story is inviting us to come watch the whole thing. The audience is listening (and watching)!!!

Very VERY impressed. Not only with the look of the movie, but the trailer you sliced together and the website that compliments the entire project. You're the real deal. What are your plans after it's completed?

Very great looking trailer. I want to see the film now. The trailer got me. Great shots, looks like you have some good actors. Most of all it looks like you've got some good material for a script. I dont think there was anything wrong with the brooding voice over, it just set me up for something else that I didnt see in the trailer.

Wow! ...speechless... it gives me inspiration to see a full quality production come from no, or little budget!
I liked the VO, but does it have something to do with a character in the film - it starts out thriller-ish, like the VO is the ringleader for some devlish plot to twist the other characters together - kind of in the vein of that movie "Saw", but then the trailer goes into a more dramatic feel.
It was nearly visually perfect! What did you use for the effects for the sky change, and the pill at the end? They were exceedingly cool!
You used Vegas. How do you (or anyone) rate that against Premiere?
Also, need help on your next film? LOL

Wow!! That looked great. The trailer make me want to see more. Some very nice photography in there, a little dark on some shots, but the overall look is very professional.
You mentioned, 7 months of pre-production and the result is there for sure, the story look very well build and even if you don't have a big budget, you seem well prepared for the shooting.

The web page looks awesome, the trailer looks great..I only have a quick question..it seems that most everything besides some dolly and tracking shots looks handheld and relatively shaky...was this intended or did you primarily use handheld shots for the trailer?

This looks great. It's nice to see real professional-looking pictures done on no budget, only the dedication and commitment of a few talented people who are willing to put the effort in. Very inspiring. Can't wait to see the full thing.

The voice over reminded me of the voice from Donnie Darko.

Wow, RikGuyver, awesome job on the trailer!
I think you've really got something on your hands here. I mean, if you told me this was your 10th feature, I would have believed you. It is also the first independent voice over that didn't sound cheesy, lol. Sounds similar to the voice from "Saw".
A lot of the cinematography elements are quite amazing too. And also, from what I can tell, the acting is superb.
Again, - great job RikGuyver!
Another thing - to get rid of "shake" from the handheld shots, I would recommend SteadyMove. http://www.steadymove.com, also http://www.wrigleyvideo.com/videotutorial/tutdes_ppro_steadymove.htm has some info. Unless of course that is the look you want.
