i just got adobe encore dvd 1.5, and when i try to import a 24p clip, encore says that the clip must be "transcoded." in the manual it says that the files are stored at 24fps, but tagged to play at 29.97 "as required by the DVD specification." does this mean that all DVDs play at 29.97, or the DVD project i'm working with is in 29.97 and i could change it to 24.
i guess i just don't really understand it. if the DVD's playing back at 29.97, wouldn't it be best to shoot in 24p as opposed to 24pa? thanks.

You will need to encode the project outside of Encore. Source material that is 24 frame (23.976) uses a technique where the duplicate frames are flaged. Premier Pro 1.x can handle the encoding. Then you just import your .m2v file and no further "transcoding" is required. I do this all the time and it works fine.

ok, I have the same problem. I use Premiere Pro 1.5 and Encore DVD 1.5. I'm working on a wedding dvd. All footage was shot in 16:9 24p, not 24pa. According to Barry's book, the DVD player will play full 16:9 frame on widescreen TVs, or letter box it on standard 4:3 TVs. Now, when I go to File:Export:Export to DVD in Premiere Pro 1.5, the default Preset for Encoding is NTSC Progressive 4X3 High Quality 4MB VBR 2 Passes. There're other 16:9 presets, but they're labeled as "Low Quality". So is the default preset a right way to go? Why is it labeled as 4x3? Would this "crop" my 16:9 24p video?
Also, it seems that Premiere Pro will encode and burn the DVD directly. But I just need the encoded file(.m2v), so I can use it in Encore DVD because there're other stuff I need to build such as main menu and chapter menu, etc. So how does it save the encoded file and use it in Encore DVD?
Thanks.
