I am new to after effects and am wondering what the benefits are to having the Pro version. I realize that I will have plenty of new stuff to learn in the standard package, but I don't want to limit myself down the road.

Are most people on here using Pro? Or are the benefits mainly superficial and you can find all the tools you need in Standard?

I should mention that I will be getting the educational version (Std - $250, Pro - $350). If not, I would not even be asking this question as the non-educational version of Pro is $600 more.

But in my case, is it worth the extra hundred bucks...?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

theres a feature comparison right on the adobe website that lists all additional features of pro so you can decide for yourself if you need it or not based oin your needs and what it provides.

http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/overviewpro.html

be sure to click"more" at the bottom to see what else pro has that standard does not.

Benny,

Check the Market place section. I have After Effects 6.5 Professional Full Retail ( not academic ) which has all the goodies. I paid a grand for it. Send me a private message or email if interested, and maybe we can work something out.
