Hey guys, I'm a longtime XH-A1 owner looking to finally make the switch into solid state media. I'm leaning towards the AC130 for its affordable price, cheap SD media, and renowned Panasonic ergonomics (I've also shot a lot with the HMC150).
But as I check out some of the test footage, I find a lot of it looks kinda video-y and oversharpened. It's not bad, but it doesn't strike me as cinematic as some shots I've pulled off with my XH-A1 for some reason.
Is this a Panasonic thing? Has there just not been great AC130 sample footage out there yet? Or am I crazy, or just plain wrong? I'd love to hear what you guys have to say.

Regular picture settings don't seem to be the greatest. Try this recipe:
AC130 Based off Panasonic Standard
Detail level: -5
Vertical detail level: -5
Detail coring: 0
Chroma level: -5
Chroma phase: 0
Master ped: -2
DRS: 1 (or 0)
Gamma: Cine-Like-D
Matrix: Cine-Like

You can make this camera look as filmic or video'ish as you desire. It's capable of producing either end of the spectrum purely based on the settings you choose (and of course your lighting/prod design/etc).

Yes! Agreed. I knew someone would say it!

The AC130 does look more video-y to me also. I came over from the Canon XH-A1 and yes, the A1 does look more film like. More pleasing to my eye at least. I never realized this until I started using the AC130. I am still changing the settings around and I still am not too happy with what I am finding. The A1, even though it has more grain in the video, it looks more film like. The AC130 grain looks more video-y, even though it has less grain. I need to sit down and really dig into the camera settings and see if I can get the look I want.
The last shoot I did, I just shot really flat and changed the look in Premiere. I am getting closer, but I want to tune the camera so I get the look right from the camera.
You might want to look at the Canon XF100 instead of the AC130. It may be closer to the A1 look.
