View Full Version : m2t to DVD?

This post is a variation of a previous one:
I rendered my work in m2t (frame rate 60.000) and got superb results (the project is composed only of stills and has a duration of a few minutes). How can I make a DVD and retain the 1280X720 size and superb quality, I mean: excellent transitions, smooth panning etc. I know I can use my laptop for a projection, but I wanted to be able to distribute some disks.
PS Sorry if my questions look naive
Today's DVDs are intended for view on standard definition television sets. As such, their resolution is limited to what these types of sets can display (i.e. 720x480 for NTSC, etc.).
However, there are some DVD players coming out on the market that can playback HD windows media encoded content. The problem is that these players have just begun to appear on the market and not many people are buying them (yet).
Unfortunately this means that there is no way to make a DVD containting HD content that is easily viewable on the majority of set-top DVD players at the moment. However, that is specifically the reason Blu-ray and HD-DVDs are fighting right now to see who will become the standard for tomorrow's Hi-Def DVDs. I figure in 1-2 years we should have consumer level solutions for (at least) one of these formats.

Here's a 2004 (http://hometheater.about.com/cs/dvdlaserdisc/a/aadvd2004a_4.htm)article that shows just how slow the transition is taking.....

Thank you both. I understand we have to wait not only for the new DVD technology, but also for the new DVD players and then the new TV sets. I think I'd rather try to find the best way to reduce to 720x480 with minimum loss for DVD writing, and keep the original version for screen projection (from my laptop).
In vegas, I'd simply use the mpeg2 rendering templates and modify if necessary (based on the content). Since you say your project is only a few minutes in length, you can increase the bitrate to allow for a better picture. A general rule of thumb is to stay below 8MB/s as set-top DVD players often have problems with content encoded at bitrates higher than that.
