A little noisey, sure, but very impressive to me is how the color and resolution hold up:

From the creator, Barry Goyette:
"Consider this an exercise into how far the Canon C300 can be pushed in terms of sensitivity. I'll be adding to this clip in the future, but in the edit you see here, with the exception of a few cars passing by, all available light is from the waning full moon last night."

Crazy and a little scary for those of us heavily invested in G&E.

Ha ha - well, Paul, no matter how sensitive our camera's get, light will always need to be shaped. I still find myself using plenty of grip these days even if I'm using less electric.

It's crazy that I don't find the noise to be obnoxious at such extreme ISO's. Not that it's uber clean, it's just...interesting. The non-uniform pattern really helps get to the rarified 'filmic' feel.

That is crazy! That camera is looking sweeter and sweeter.

Stunningly realistic. Loved seeing the oncoming headlights

Yes, but I still think D4 no less ;-) interesting...

Especially if you can get the same quality footage with an external recorder and the d4 for way under 10k.

Interesting is how i'd characterize it. The lack of fixed pattern noise makes the noise evocative of film in a way, but it's still pretty noisy past ISO of 10,000. Just a pleasant noise is all, unlike other cams, and the detail remains in the shot which is nice too, and not the norm at such high Gain. That said, it's also easier to clean up and the person who made the clip ran a light denoise pass on it and the footage looked even more stunning.

I just watched 'The Grey' this weekend (excellent movie, btw) and one thing that really struck me hard was how similar the grain on the 35mm film of that movie was to the noise pattern of the C300. So much so that at the beginning of the film, when Liam Neeson was walking through the oil field at night and grain was dancing all over the place, I thought 'They couldn't have shot this on a C300 could they?!' Nope. Panavision 35mm. The noise pattern of the C300 is really remarkeable.

The cinematography was really great in The Grey. The grain really added to the look as well imo.

This latest crop of high ISO/Lower noise sensors does really change things. In some ways it will make G&E easier as the E will simply mean a handful of LED flashlights. I've got mine ready. can't wait to do a short using just flashlights all the way. Don't toss those Litepanels Micro's away either ;)

I spent the whole day today at Denstu America editing c300 media in 1080p prores 4444. I'm so in love with this footage.

Check out the denoise pass of the moonlight video - I'm still picking up the pieces of my jaw....

The one thing i criticize about the amazingly clean hi iso sensors is that they don't look funky enough in low light. To be able to be shooting in moonlight and have a scene look lit defies what i see with my eye. moonlight definitely has a look and feel but it doesn't look lit.

Still pretty amazing though.
