Hi carolina straight shooters,

I plan to get hvx when it comes out, but cannot afford the p2 cards, maybe we can share these cards or better yet, if there is a rental company in the area that plans to carry these P2 cards pretty cheap, please contact me. I am trying to make the transition to p2 a little easier on my pocket!?

I am in the triangle area, would love to see a hvx/dvx user group in the area.
email me...

One of the major rental companies that I know of in central NC is AV off of I68. I plan on getting a HVX but I might go the route of a firestore if it seems like a viable option.

thanks pyro,
I am new to the area. I might have to do the firestore option if the P2 becomes too costly. I feel so much better about the solid state memory and also trying to avoid the clunkiness of the firestore.

No problem...I wish I could afford to drop P2 prices but I'm still a student working full time...besides I just dropped enough on my micro35....

I am in temporary exile in Roanoke Va (long story), just up 220 from Greensboro and have been looking for a good rental house. Everything I've found so far is either in DC or Richmond. I would much rather go to Greensboro. What does AV offer and how do I contact them?

AV Company (http://www.avcompany.com/). Their number is on their site. They also have branches in Raleigh and Charlotte if that would be more conveinent that Greensboro.

Cool, thanks. Do you know of any links to other filmmaking resources in NC?

Thanks again.

Hey fellow Carolinians - check out www.tarheelfilms.com (http://www.tarheelfilms.com/) and www.triadindie.com (http://www.triadindie.com/) for NC film stuff. Plus sign up for the NC Hot sheet from NC Film Office.

I would be interested in a P2 card pool myself.

I'm in NC as well and I'm on the EVS HVX list. I would definitely be interested in starting this conversation again once the HVX is out (and I get my mind around the cam a bit).

Maybe we could pool other services/gear as well. I have access to a decent size conference area also that I could "possibly" get for free and it's centralized (Pinehurst for any golfers, the US Open is going to be there in two weeks actualy). There are lots of NC guys on this board so as this thing evolves maybe we could organize a little better. There's a vicious rumor that John Hudson is headed this way too.

Most of my criminal activity has been expunged from my permanent record and besides occasional binge drinking I’m not such a freak (that whole thing involving the strippers and the billy goats was a total fabrication)

The AV Company is much more oriented for Corporate Audio-Video functions and not production. They're a great company (I work with them a lot), but not really oriented for production. If you need projection or sound systems they are definitely the guys to go to (I helped them install a 16000 lumins! projector over the weekend for an event).

There are some decent rental places in the area though... try Harris Chewning for larger production equipment. They aren't cheap but they have a lot of stuff. In Raleigh you can visit Quail Video (On Glenwood) for smaller video ENG style stuff - again, not cheap but what do you expect we're in NC? Or you could call or visit me. I rent my equipment and skillz and love doing prodction work - I'm in Chapel Hill.

you can hit me up at www.pointandshootpro.com if yo have any questions

TIFN holds screenings of indie films every month - check out www.triadindie.com for details. I've screened several of my flicks there (I actually used to run it but Neb Rodgers does now).

All,

I'm just around the corner in Concord. I like the idea of a virtual studio, where we can all contribute or collaborate through creative, gear and labor pooling. Please keep me in the loop for any projects you have coming up.

I have a mailing list at www.stephenv2.com and also frequent the TIFN yahoo board (www.triadindie.com)

Which of you are doing the 48 Hour Film fest in Greensboro? I will be running a team again this year. Hell, the grand prize is a HVX200 :)

How are the prizes awarded - to the collective winning team after the national contest is over? I didn't get a clear explanation from their site.

Damn, cannot make to the event at Green Bean.

Let us meet up, future HVX users, DVX users, triadindie group, filmmakers meet in the triangle somewhere...?
Sometime end of June?

I'm thinking about organizing a film festival in G'boro sometime in the near future...Any thoughts and or suggestions?

stephenvv

Greensboro could use a good indie festival - the Carolina Film and Video thing that UNC-G runs is badly managed, poorly marketed and unfriendly to local, non-student filmmakers...

Your best place to brainstorm this idea would be on the TIFN yahoo group (www.triadindie.com) - there are about 200 people on that list...

Greensboro 48 Hour Film Project has an official online home for a
one-stop source for all information, news, networking, getting help
& resources for this years festival.

For teams already registered, you can get all your news from Nisha &
Ed, interact with other teams, list your team profile and find
actors, crew, equipment & locations plus access lists of local
resources.

For people looking for teams, you can post your info, contact
existing teams or form your own.

During and after the actual festival, the site will serve as the
ongoing info-base for the 48 Hour Film Festival so you have one easy
spot to get all the latest info.

-I thought of doing film fesitval, though not in Greensboro. More festivals, more interest in local cinema, more people interested in investing and getting the film out there. So yea, festival sounds good.
steven
does your group ever meet? Chat rooms really don't create any momentum of any kind.

stephenvv

It's not "my group", just a loose collective, but TIFN has screenings at the Grean Bean every month and people meet before and after informally. There's also a production workshop that meets monthly and screenwriting group that meets weekly.

There were monthly dinner.networking meeting but the organizers of those dropped them.

I think another non school affiliated (although I am a student at UNCG) festival could do very well. Greensboro is definitly proactive when it comes to cinema. I mean just look at all the megaloplexes we have for a medium sized town. I'm open to any suggestions about names and or themes.

we threw an outdoor film fest a few weeks ago at lyndon street called the potluck outdoor cinema. we are going to do another in the fall probably. we are looking for more submissions as well. there is also harris chewning in chapel hill. av company is awesome, but i dont think they are going to cary the hvx as of recent but things will hopefully change. by chance did anyone attend their 25 year anniversary a few weeks ago? if you didnt, it was amazing and soooo much free food and open bars every 30 feet or so. any of you gboro guys doing 48 this year? the winning team then goes on to compete the national level and is given an hvx to shoot on and if they win the national they get to keep the hvx. oh yeah, my team is good as a mugg, we're in there too. worddd.
