View Full Version : HPX250: Considering...

I have a love/hate relationship with my AF100.

Considering re-packaging my gear and moving forward with a HPX250 and a GH2 (hacked). The 250 gives me flexibility
with pressers, sports and random sequenced B Roll.
The gh2 will allow for shallow DOF interviews, glidecam/slider work and low light shoots. I just hate the idea of the 1/3 inch chip set with the 250.

That being said, I know the technology we all crave is around the corner
(large sensors in small bodies with proper servo zooms and robust codecs).

With the BH sale price on the 250+64gb card and the $730 rebate from AE (that pays for the GH2 body),
it's hard to pass up.

I'm fortunate enough to have paid the AF off 5x over in 2011 (part time).
I can probably get 3-4k for the AF and move on...

Why wouldn't you consider the AC160?

I sold my AF100 because I had issues with it (love/hate as well). Felt having an AF and a Canon 60D was redundant. Sold my AF, turned around and bought the 250. Considered the EX1R and XF300 but went with the 250 and am really liking it. I don't regret it at all. If Panasonic eventually comes out with an AF that shoots AVCIntra on P2 I'm in. I'll keep my 250 though - different tool.

I wish Panny would move into the 1/2 chip set with these cams. Oh well. This pkg will suffice (hpx250/gh2) for 2012.
The coffers are being filled for the eventual purchase of the Sony F3 w/ Samurai and the PMW EX350.

Why would they when the 1/3" is pretty much equal in performance? Just a bit less DOF.

Just a bit less DOF.
Ny point exactly...

I wish they would make a 2/3" chip cam in the size of the 250. If shooters are buying both the HPX370 and HPX250 then why would they not do the same in the 2/3" world? For some reason we went from 1/3" and 1/2" then jumped over to large sensor. The 2/3" market is so entrenched in the ENG world, the manufacturers don't want to rock the boat. A 250 size camera with AVCIntra and a 2/3" chip set would be near perfect for doc shooting.

That camera is the HPX3100.

Yes I know that it isn't the same size as the HPX-250.

It is a shoulder-mount camera, which, imo, is better.

The 250 is too big to be "handy-cam" size but too small to be shoulder mounted.

Still a great camera for the price.

Ya the 2xxx and the 3xxxx series are great 2/3 cams but the price jump...

We need a 2/3 cam, full raster, sub $16,000.
Ok, that's my wish anyways.

I want 100mbs Fair enough, that's my reason as well.. I just thought coming from AF100, it might make sense to stick with the SD card workflow and the cheaper price.

I'd take the 1 off of that price, and add the letters "CCD" between 2/3 and cam.
