im having this really annoying problem thats making me reallly mad, and im bout to throw my comoputer out the window along with my camera and everything else. Yesterday I captured footage from my camera to my computer through the IEEE 1394 firewire port like you would usually. Then today I go back on the computer to get some more footage onto the computer and I hooked up my camera to the comptuer and turned it on...and my computer doesnt detect the device anymore. Usually it used to have a sound then a menu would pop up asking what i would like to capture with (which program). Im using XP professional by the way. So then I was like..thats weird...then i went into Vegas and Video Capture...turned the camera off then on again...and it didnt detect my camera..and i have no clue how im supposed to get it to work any more.
I went to preferences...under Video Device...i click IEEE 1394...and i click apply then ok...and still nothing.....anyone else have a suggestion to what i could do?

Try rebooting first then add the camera in later after your vegas is running and set to to vcr mode.

And if you have another 1394 device available, try it...see if Windows sees it.
If it does, but still doesn't see the camera...you might have blown out the cam's port.

I solved mine a long time ago...I just re-booted the system and it was fine.
but ever since it didnt detect my camera..its been delaying on me..like...i click rewind or play in the capture program..i hear the sound..but it takes like 5 seconds for video to appear..never happend before...hmm..
hmmm... did you lose ANY "previous" work!! (that may have been in progress?)....im in production and (of course) dont want to lose any info...!! so did you re-install VEGAS??
still doesnt recognize after "reboot"...hmmm...should i reinstall?? if so will it still save/recognize myproject files?
btw: my ports/cords etc check out fine.

No work was lost..everything was sitting on the harddrive fine.
I didnt reinstall Vegas...i turned the machine off for a few hours..went out with my friends..then i got back later that nite..turned it back on to see if it works again..and it worked.
Miracle i think....but the delay in showing the footage just annoys the hell outta me..i hear sound..and see a blue little screen that says...PLAY DEVICE for like 5 seconds...the other day it didnt even show video..i had to shut off my camera and turn it back on..it was weird.
maybe i semi-fried suttin in my camera or firewire device. lol

you should go into the device driver and make sure the device isn't being shared. this has caused me serious problems with capture, especialy considering i use a firewire audio card. My solution was to get another pci 1394 card, plug camera into one and the audio card into another. FIREWIRE SUCKS AAAAAAH.
if you don't wont to buy something new (i dunno, 25 bucks?), do a system restore to before your problems.
bad vid card...blah....FIXED!!!
