I directed a little scene in class today that we shot on 35mm.... wow.. I must say I enjoy shooting on film...

something really tangible about it... just feels cool...

that and my scene was pretty fucking good... had the dolly track out, doing rack focus and some action.

I will post the scene here once we get the film back from the lab..

still love my DVX... but man.. if I could afford to shoot my short film in 35mm I would..

My friend just showed me the first thing he ever shot on film (as DP): a 16mm short with a $6,000 budget, shot with beautiful stock, and (unfortunately) edited on DV.

Anyhow, it was very pretty. Video still doesn't match up, though the varicam probably comes close in everything but dynamic range (this stock had INSANE dynamic range...not one blown highlight, even when he wanted huge contrast.)

You all can have your film and DV, ...give me a cave wall and some chalk and I'm a happy man. Cave drawings, that's the only "true" medium. And the new VariCave is awesome!

All of you non-believers, look at the proof. The ancient ones foresaw the coming of the DVX. Behold the stone of truth.
