Need Help!.... So I bought a new HVX200A but my FCP X is not detecting the camera. I am using a 1394 to FW800 cable, at first i thought that the 1394 port was damaged so I returned the camera and had it replaced with a new one, came back and tried it again still didn't detect. So i then changed the cable to a new one and still nothing. My FW800 port on my iMac is working fine because i connected another device and it had no problem detecting. Is there some setting I have to select in order for FCP X to detect the camera and I am trying to import VIA mini DV tape.

Be sure the HVX200 is in the correct DTR/VTR mode. I forget the exact letters they use to call the tape playback mode. Be sure the camera is set up internally first.

If still no recognition, be sure to test the camera on another Mac to verify it's not the FW port of the camera.

Also, find a FW400-FW800 converter, as sometimes a simple crossover cable doesn't work correctly.

In FCP X you simple open Import From Camera (after the camera has been connected and turned on in the proper mode), that's about it.

I didn't think FCP X supported any kind of tape-based workflow. Did Apple fix that?

It supports firewire based tape acquisition. Not anything 24pN.

FCP X always had tape capture via Firewire since it's initial release. Shows how much bad information is out there. FW video stream standard 59.92, and 24p formats are simply flagged frames inside of that.
