I have been trying to figure this out but when I select on, I see no change in the viewfinder or as I review photos taken with it on.

Can someone help understand what is wrong with my expectation or practice?

My expectation is to see a zoom, double what the lens is.

Thanks
Rob

I'm assuming you are talking about photos? ETC does not work in the highest (largest) photo setting. You need to step down one level for it to work.

So if I have the highest quality setting selected for a photo, it is not functional?

ETC just means "crop". Therefore, you can't crop the highest resolution and still have that resolution. For video the highest resolution is 1920x1080. However, the sensor has far more resolution than that. When you crop to 1920x1080 for video you still end up with lossless 1080p. If this was a 4K video camera then you would not be able to use ETC with 4K video either.

Yes. 2.6x crop for 1080p. 3.9x for 720p.
