Well,
I finally pulled the trigger on a 14-140 kit and a 20mm pancake. It helped that the price for the big kit went down to 1199.00. Unbelievable.

Now I will have to get busy and learn the camera.

Thanks for all the answered questions.
Rob

Congrats! I got mine on Tuesday and I'm STILL going through all the different settings trying to figure everything out :)

Just read this post http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?204761-A-Guide-To-Setting-Your-GH1-GH2-Up-For-Video and you'll be all set to go as far as taking video. Don't forget to get a ND filter.

thanks... I have already been thinking about filters. Do you know what size to purchase for the 14-140 and the 20mm? Are they the same size?

No, the 14-140 is 62MM the 20 is 46MM....
You can get step up rings so you can use 62MM filters with the 20MM lens.

You will also need a 46MM to 52MM step up ring to get you there.

Thanks. Just ordered a step up and a single variable.

The 14-140 is "62mm", right?

I tried purchasing a 46mm graduated ND for the 20mm 1.7, to no avail, I'd need something closer to a 26mm hard edge to make a filter for that one, the optical entrance is so tiny.

Just sharing my misadventures. :P

Yes, I didn't find one either. There is a 62, which I ordered and a ring for the pancake to get up there.

I actually bought a 46mm ND Grad but the point is it doesn't work because the optical entrance in the lens is even smaller than 46mm.

Perhaps with a Cokin/Mattebox with a hard cut grad one you can make something work out.

Forgive my lack of understanding but can you explain what you mean and how it may pertain to what I purchased?

got the camera... took some out of the box pics with very little understanding of the platform and wow....

Instantly was taking richer, better pics than with any point and shoot I have owned. Really nice and I can't wait to compare some video footage to my old HMC40 camera. I believe, despite the quality of the HMC line, that for my tastes, it will be a repeat.

Well, you were talking about filters and the 20mm 1.7, I was just saying that the 20mm 1.7 doesn't work with regular screw-on ND grads because the optical entrance is so small.

Hope it's clearer now... :)

I have both cameras also, and they intercut very nicely (I use 720p60 on both) - same 'Panasonic colors'. The two areas where the HMC beats the Gh2 decisively are battery life, and lack of jello if you are moving the camera around.

Interesting. I guess I could pull off a 3cam shoot now, if needed. I didn't consider using the DSLR with the HMC's. Thanks for the tip.

Just took some photos today, on full auto no less, they are the richest pics I have ever taken. I have played a bit with exposure but am still completely overwhelmed. It will be a while before it is true fun.

Gratz!
