so sorry to ask this here.
if I were to captured ch 1 sound on lav, and ch 2 sound on a boom (both on different subjects), how do I make Prem Pro recognise and separate it into 2 different audio lines and not just 1 audio line combined, when I digitise it ?

..i cant remember for sure but i think theres and option in the capture window options that says something like "capture 2nd stream as seperate track/file" and it will bring it in as a seperate file so you have 2 audio files for the one vid.
.. forgive me if im way off there. my head spins in so much software all the time that its hard to rememberobscure things from stuff i used rarely in the basic ones i use the most.
i cant remember for sure but i HAVE done it before.. ill check tonight if i remember. :)
..it may have been through mny matrox card.. but i know you can do it with PPRO AFTER capture.. to break out to seperate tracks from the one stereo track .. try right clicking the audio track. its probably there or uner the clip options menu. again ill check tonight . but if nothing else, you could simply copy the audio clip only to another track of audio.. and use "fill left" one one track to only use the left channel on both sides of a stereo track for the clip.. and use "fill right" on the other to only use the right channel on both sides of the stereo track for the other clip. .. youll have to fill left and right anyway, so that would be pretty easy and quick.

capture normally
Unlink video/audio track
select audio track and copy - Ctr C
Select second track in timeline and paste - Ctr V
Select first audio track and open mixer. Pan left
Select second audio track in mixer and pan right
Viola!

You can also use the Effects palette instead of opening the audio mixer and doing a pan left and pan right. The Fill Left and Fill Right are two audio effects in the Stereo folder. I've done it both ways and I like using the effects palette because it's easier to adjust and turn on/off through the effects windown than going and opening the audio mixer. But that's just me.

Sorry Sirius, it's been like that since Jarrod changed the software a few months back. It was never really a problem for me... I have dual 19" monitors so I have tons of screen space.
BTW, you ever get any word from Adobe on a fix for 24p Normal? Or are they just going to continue to ignore things until the PP 2.0 (they'll likely brand it PP CS like the rest of their product lines) comes out? I know Adobe works on 18-month product cycles, and with PP1.5 having been released in September 04, we aren't even half way.

I'm sure they will keep ignoring us all...... They're out to take over the universe with Microsoft now that they've aquired Macromedia....
They don't seem to even think there is a problem so I wouldn't be surprised if it's not fixed in their next release. If not, I'm gonna finally leave Premiere and probably go with Vegas or Avid.

..yeah id use the fill left or fill right command.. panning will get rid of the sound from one channel of the stereo track or he other.. but then youll only hear that track from the one side your panned to.. if you pan full right.. that guys voice will only be heard through the right speakers. using the fill right effect.. the right channel will be played on the right side,, and will also replace the left side.. however . i did check last night, and you CAN click on the audio file. and go to the clip menu and select "breakout to mono clips" and that creates one mono track from the right channel and one from the left channel of the stereo clip. if you can do it to more than one clip at a time.. that would be the fastest and probably best way to go about it.
