filming a play

Hi-
I've been asked to film a play, and I'm new to the Panasonic DVX100a. Any general tips on this? The lighting, I suspect will not be the best. Are any of the pre-set scene files particularly good for this?

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of info on exactly what the location will be like, so any general thoughts would be appreciated.

If you get a chance, go to a dress rehearsal and roll some test footage. Try out all the settings and talk into the mic telling yourself what setting you are on. That way when you review the footage and find the "look" you like, you'll know what setting to use for the main event. Also try different camera locations. Depending on the play, stage left may be better than stage right, or maybe center is best. You'll only know if you watch a rehearsal and see where all the action takes place.
