I've searched but cant find any definitive answer for a solution to record at 1080p 60 to an external (portable) device such as the ninja or similar. I know a few can do 1080i at 60 but for me that's not an option.

The Ninja can't record 60p. You need much more expensive recorders with dual SDI or 3G SDI for that. Neither has the FS100 such an output. Sorry, mate!

i took some shots with the fs100. surprisingly when i recorded in 1080/50p with the ninja attached, the prores footage in a premiere project with 50% speed looked like true 50p, after i had interpreted the clip with upper frame first. i could use it as a real slow mo. i'm confused now, because it's fact that hdmi recorders cannot handle 50p because of the 50i streaming.

Sure, the Ninja will record 50i in that case. If de-interlaced properly, it'll give you full temporal resolution but only half vertical resolution.

does this mean that every frame is 1920x540? is there another visible difference?

would you shoot in 720/50p or 1080/50p with the ninja for slow motion?

Up to you. The Kell factor will reduce the spatial resolution to more or less the same in the vertical dimension. If you see aliasing, rather go 720p50.

ok thanks! do handheld shots result more aliasing? cause i don't see any visible difference in static shots. so i would go with fullHD. for safety i got the in-camera true 50p ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys, shame about that really. Guess I just wait and see what emerges on November 3rd.
