Hi folks, we just finished shooting a full feature on the DVX100a.
We shot in letter box, in advanced setting, and had a sound man recording it all at 24bits. (48K)

We have approx 65 hours of footage. It's time to edit.

We have Premiere 1.5, and Magic Bullet.

QUESTION:

What would be the most kick ass computer I can purchase to handle the load? I like IBM compats... Budget approx $ 5,000
Clock speed_____?
Monitor Type________
Sound Card________
How much hard drive storage?_________
DVD info?
Any special ram needed....?

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks for your time.....

you should just build one.. that way you can configure it specifically for video editing and just buy the best components you can for the money.

Yep, with 5k$ budget you can head here (http://www.newegg.com/) and build yourself one kick-ass rig

Dual XEON 3GHz
2GB Registered RAM
1.4 Terra Bytes Drive Space Raid Level 5
ATI X800 Pro Vid. Card
Dual LG DVD Burners
256MB RAM Cached Bus
Intel Server MOBO and Case
600 Watt Power Supply
Dual 17" Flatscreens
Max B. Sound Card with IEEE1394
Adobe Vid. Collection Pro

Both Prem and AE support multiprocessors.
Also where support for OpenGL and/or Direct-X previewing, everything is real time as X800 Pro has 16 Pixel Processing Pipelines.

There are six fans inside, but was suprised this setup was quieter than my development box with just two fans.

To date, this is the fastest config. I've been on. (Until dual-cores become mainstream)

Thank you so much for the info.... In your opinion this is the most up to date equipment and needed specs for an editing system? It sounds good to me, but I am new to digital editing.... x800 is the way to go also??

Thanks...Darryl
