Does anyone know if Sony Vegas will ever be able to digitize and spit out DVCPro HD footage? Right now the only DVCPro codecs it recognizes are DVCPro 25 and 50. I love the edit program because I mainly shoot commercials and clients love a product done quickly and with Vegas I can do that. I don't particularly care for Sony's cameras though and love the DVX100A that I bought. So when I upgrade to the HVX200, does anyone know of a way to get DVCPro HD footage into Vegas and back out again? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all who reply.

As of right now they don't support it. Many on this board including myself have been petitioning them to do so, but so far no definitive answer. I'm still confused as to why they haven't, I have heard some things about Windows being an isue, and the generic conspiracy theory that they won't because of them trying to propogate HDV.

Right now, who knows if they will. They just released Vegas 6, with HDV support.

Yeah, I talked to a Sony rep who came by recently to demonstrate Vegas 6 and the new Z1 camera. He told me that unofficially Sony was "working on it" but officially it won't be compatible. He said something about there being a way to get uncompressed 1080 into Vegas, I was just curious if you or anyone else knew how to do that. By the way, I was not impressed with the Z1. In low light, you have to boost the gain up to a very uncomfortable level to get a decent exposure.

They (sony) would have to put much bigger CCD's in the FX1 for real low light performance. The one really great thing about the FX1 is the form factor. It is perfect. The LCD mount position is really revolutionary for hand held shooting. If panasonic hasn't gone to production with the form then they should "adopt" the sony mount position for all of their cameras.

Who knows if DVCProHD will exist in vegas.

Well Vegas is really more or less format/framerate/framesize independent so it is just a matter of the right codec being available! Of course if the DVCPro(HD) stream is embedded in a proprietary "container" (=file format) then this has to be supported by Vegas - but it could also simply be supported OS wide by a DirectShow filter that can parse it.
Furthermore the main problem with DVCProHD currently is that there is no Windows codec available besides some proprietary (=only working inside the vendors own NLE) solutions like Canopus Edius etc.
But eg. from MainConcept (or Matrix) there are already DVCPro25/50 Windows codecs available now.. it's just a matter of time that there will be DVCProHD codecs out there. Then it should be fairly easy for every NLE running on Windows to support the format!

And what should be the problem with uncompressed 1080 in Vegas? With Vegas6 SDI is even officially supported now... there's no problem if (like Decklink) the uncompressed video data is in a AVI wrapper and the codec is available to the system.
