Looks like it will give autofocus to alpha lenses with this adapter. I wonder if it will give 'smooth' iris control as well?

Looks like a welcome improvement over the LA-EA1, but $400 is pretty steep. Do you mean smooth iris control as in no clicks or as in no jumping all over the place? I definitely hope it does not jump around like the LA-EA1, but I'd be very surprised if it didnt still have clicks every 1/3 stop.

If this comes out before any updates on the Birger mount I may just have to forget about Birger and trade in all my EF mount glass for A mount glass. I'm getting very tired of not having aperture control or IS.

This video briefly show LA-EA2 being used with the new NEX-VG20. So are we looking at FS getting an firmware update for the new adapter? I wonder what other improvements will be included, if any.

Where did you hear the FS needed a firmware update to use this adapter?

For what it's worth, here's a quote from Sony's press release on the Nex-20:

Sony is also planning to develop a third-party "eco-system" to allow consumers to use the camcorder with other brands' lens assets.

I wouldn't buy stock in Birger right now.

From what I've read, other NEX camera would require a firmware update. So I'm just making an educated guess -- it was more of a question than anything.

I'm guessing you're talking about the old adapter, (not the la-ea2)

I saw that press release too. It made me smile.

No, I'm talking about LA-EA2. The article I had read was basically saying that NEX camera would need a firmware update to use the new adapter. And they were assuming the same for FS100. Obviously no one knows for sure since Sony hasn't said anything official yet.

From Engadget:
"Sony's LA-EA2 A-mount adapter lets you use your full-size Alpha lenses with the NEX cameras without losing functionality, thanks to built-in Translucent Mirror Technology and a dedicated AF motor. NEX-3 (http://www.engadget.com/tag/NEX3/), NEX-5 (http://www.engadget.com/tag/NEX5/), and NEX-C3 (http://www.engadget.com/tag/NEXC3/) owners will need a firmware update to take advantage of the adaptor..."

Someone also had an online chat with Sony support and said this regarding NEX-VG10:
"Hi guys, I bring you a conversation I had with a technical analyst at Sony, where he says that in fact does exist the blessed new firmware. Sony may announce within weeks or a month, they do not know when but it will go. Although not sure you get the same functionality as the new VG20."

This was confirmed at the live Sony UK Q&A session (at the VG20 announcement).

Please somebody tell me: with this new E-A adapter, we will get fast auto focus on our FS100s with all those nice A lenses, but will we also get iris control (both manual and auto)? And, how about the IS?

In other words, will the A lenses work exactly as the SEL 18200 (the kit lens) is working now?

The IS is part of the camera with A lenses…

The IS is part of the camera with A lenses…

So, technically, IS would work with a 3rd party alpha lens from tokina, zeiss, etc?

I understood nomad-3 saying that there is no IS in A lenses, so with the FS100 (or any other NEX for that matter), there will be no IS with A lenses even with this new A/E adapter...

Did I get it right?

In Sony's Alpha bodies, the IS system is in the body, not the lens. So any lens you put on an Alpha camera is "image stabilized."

The NEX bodies does not have IS built in, but depends on lenses that have OSS like the 18-200. The LA-EA2 adapter does not provide IS, so an Alpha lens mounted to the adapter, then to any NEX would offer no stabilization at all, as far as I know.
