View Full Version : HVX200 in DV
So can I expect the HVX200 in DV to be as good or better than DVX100? Since it will have 16:9 now, will there be some squeeze mode for 4:3?
When will we get more info on what will work as far as iPods, Firestore, hard drives etc?
I hope in the near future we can put all of the pieces together so I can decide the cost of going with the HVX200. At this point I will probably start out with tape and maybe to a Firestore or something.

Yep- native 16:9 so the DV should be a few notches up. I'd suspect a squeeze mode of some sort for 4:3. Plus you'll be able to do slow motion and high speed by shooting to P2 and then downconverting to DV.

I also remember reading something (sorry forget where) about how the dv signal is created from down converting from the original HD signal. I wonder what kind, if any, quality boost there will be from down converting a 4:2:2 HD progressive image to DV.

On a videotaped NAB interview, Jan did say that she expects the SD image from the HVX to be better than the DVX.
Don't forget that there's also DVCPRO50 in there, which should give you a much superior standard-def image than the DV mode would.

Are you talking about it being better down converting the DVCPRO 50 to tape or P2 card or to a hard drive?
One other question: after you edit will you be able to send back to tape on the HVX? Even if it was recorded on a P2 card? I still thinking it would be nice to have a back up copy even if it is on a tape. Plus you can't keep it on a Hard drive forever.

I would imagine that you can put a DV compressed copy of it back to DV tape via fire wire. But as far as keeping it DVCPro, DVCPro50, or DVCProHD, you would either need to keep it on the Hard Drive, or have a DVCPro/50/HD deck in your posession. Peace.

Or burn it to DVD?
