View Full Version : FS100 and Zacuto EVF?

I am evaluating a Zacuto EVF with my FS100. I cannot get the 1080p signal, or even 720p, to be read correctly. I have checked all settings, and it always shows a crop from the screen that is stretched out even. Is anyone else using this EVF with their FS100? If so, what firmware version? I can get 480p to show correctly, but obviously that is NOT something I care to use :)

Thanks!

I had the same experience. I was on the original firmware. Between that, the crappy peaking, and resolution sub par to the built in LCD, I decided to send it back...

I just want to know if *anyone* has gotten this combination to work. :) I'm at a loss at the moment to making it happen.

Don't know what firmware you are using but the current firmware 1.01.00 update added a specific Fs100 scaling preset in the menu system.

Zacuto EVF does not support 1080p so no use trying. :)

I'm using it at 1080i. 720p should work as well.

Sony fs-100 can record 1080p and can give output in different format like 1080i. Why don't you record 1080p and use 1080i at viewfinder.

I tried to use the 1080i output on the FS100 as well and it didn't work, and I tried the FS100 preset. I tried the 720p and it too did not work. Not sure what else to do. I tried all these on the Marshall 5" and the DP4 and they all worked fine, so I don't believe there is anything wrong with the camera.

Hello Rick,

We will have a firmware update in a couple of weeks maybe sooner that will enable the EVF to display and loop through 1080p. In the mean time, go into the Video out menu and set it to 1080i or 720p. You will never be able to see the difference between those formatts on this 3.5" screen. Even in 480p you would be hard pressed to see the difference in resolution and it is totaly usable for framing and focus even in 480p.

Jens, I have a quick question about the scaling preset for FS100. When I choose the preset, I get these large black bars on the sides resulting in cropped image. Do you know what's going on here?

Yes, this is a known bug that will be fixed in the next update. Use the preset for the Sony F3. It will work the same as it is Sony and the same sensor.

I'm not sure about other's experiences, but with latest Firmware, setting Sony to 1080i out (as is required for my Atomos Ninja to record 24p; the output is properly flagged by the FS100) I am having zero problems getting the Zacuto EVF to work. This is even with the EVF looping through to a Ninja or even split from the cam to the EVF then the Ninja and also a Marshall 7".

You have to make sure 1080i output is set at HDMI. It will have zero negative effect on your external recordings if you use reverse telecine on the output as long as you are set to a 24p frame rate. I haven't tested if the Ninja will take the 1080p out directly but based on previous info from Atomos I don't think it will.

All of that said as Jens mentions, an upcoming FW will solve the issue if you want to stay at 1080p mode; but if you are recording to something like a Ninja AFAIK you need to stay at 1080i anyway.
