Moon Harvest - FS100 Low Light Glory

21 & 30 db, shot handheld with the kit lens (cause I forgot the Nikon adapter at home - duh!)

Should be up on Vimeo any minute.

Hi, Frank.

That looks very clean. What's the ISO equivalent of that much gain?

Best,

John

Yeah, itīs almost scary.

If I coud have used my fast primes instead of the kit lens, I could have got away with 9 & 18 db.

The music is from Kevin McLeod.
I donīt have the title here in the moment, something with "child" in it. I believe.

It happens to everyone I think, haha. Ive forgotten my SD cards at home in my card readers. That one was dumb and cost me a couple hours and lots of gas!

Ill repost my questions from vimeo here...
Did you add any noise reduction filters? I shot something similar with the kit lens mainly at f6.3 (so i could zoom) a couple weeks ago (it was night time trucking) and couldnt go over 21 without noise. I could not even tell the 30db shots in this video at first glance. The shot at 1.45 really impresses me.

Stop teasing! :kali:

If you're gonna tease me can you do it with a cam that doesn't cost over 5 grand. I'm trying very hard to spend my money on making films instead of buying new toys for a change.

Can somebody please ban me. :cheesy:

Love the look. Was the blue cast a WB thing or in post?

Nice stuff Frank! Very beautiful...

A question - now that you've had the kit lens for a while, would you still buy it? Very surprised it could generate any images at dawn given how relatively slow it is...

First I looked at the kit lens and thought WTF? I have a dozen of fast primes, why should I buy that slow glass?
So I only bought the body.

After my first run and gun job I ordered the kit lens (duh!).

Itīs the only lens that really talks to the camera in the moment.
Auto focus and stabilization work surprisingly well.

Itīs slow, but that was never a problem with the FS100 as long as you are not after DOF.

I don't like the way it extents while zooming , and a lot of other things, but yeah I would buy it again.
Itīs much better than I thought.

Thanks Frank for the response. So using a matte box would be a pain eh? Which leaves screw on filters or something like the Cokin...

I know what you mean. I can't believe I own an FS100. I want to ban myself from upgrading for five years... Because lets face it: you can't blame the camera any more!
