Ok here it is.....

These are some fo the examples of videos taken with the DOF adapter I have been building for several months. Again...I am trying to get a Super8 look...kinda grungy and gritty.

I know there is some vignetting around the edges, there is dust in my lens, and my rack focus moves are not as smooth as exlax....but hey the whole darn thing cost me about $450 plus the lens!

Enjoy and critique away

Not bad at all...except super 8 has the same deep DOF as the dvx does so it really doesn't look like super 8. But it definitely looks pretty cool; nice job on the adapter.

Super 8,
Looks great! The colors have that every so familiar kodachrome feel. Did you run some filtration in post?

Thanks....

saturated the crap out of it on camera. WHen i brought it to the non linear...I crushed the blacks a tad more

Oh ....by the way the colors are so saturated on camera that it looks like grain on a Sony PVM monitor. Thus this static adapter has some move to it....it is kinda weird how it works. You can see a little of what I am talking about on DOF3 clip

Also by white balancing on different white or in other colors you can get the camera to have a "bad" film color look

Wow, that looks great! So, are you going to tell us what you did? Are you going to sell this?

You know......

I have like 10 emails asking me the same question...are you selling?

Have I created a monster?

To clarify, you were using still 35mm lenses, right? I think the implication is that this was shot with super 8 lenses.....

I am still using a 35mm adapter. I was calling it the super8 adapter because of the look I was trying to achieve....grungy, dirty etc. I was using different types of GG ranging from paper to plastic types. Check out some of my earlier experiments:

But you pose an interesting question. I got some Beaulieu Super 8 cameras with interchangeable lenses. I might have to give it a try and see what i get.

Super 8, didn't you start the thread about getting your guide finally? Are you now also trying to build from the guide? Your thoughts on micro35?

thanks

Hey Dann:

Yep..I started the thread about getting the Micro35.

I paid for my manual mid Jan and like most waited for ever for the guide. This prompted me to start creating a static 35DOF adapter of my own. I just had too many projects and I just coudn't wait for the Micro35 to come out.

On my thoughts about the Micro35 manual......I'ts quite an impressive piece of info. I had heard that it would be no sweat to put on of these together.....but I would describe it as putting a piece of Sauder Furniture you buy at WalMart...the instructions say it will take about 30 minutes to put a small desk together and 8 hours later you are cursing up a storm and far away from being done.

In all fairness...I am no mechanic wizard and have absolutely no shop skills, but for my taste it is a little to complicated. There might be others that find it easy to put it together....I seriously think i wil attempt to create this thing. Now I hear there will be pre-assembled pieces...but who knows when they will be ready.

For my money, the adapter I built is nice and clean and it works beautifully. Of course the image is flipped but no sweat with today's non linears. Also my adapter is real easy to aseemble and at a $450 price, you simply can't beat it. TIme to build you ask?......maybe about 30 minutes with the right tools.

So there...those are my thoughts.......
