this is how you ramp slow-mo with after effects
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled.jpg
first, right click that box and select new composition.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled2.jpg
next, select these settings.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled3.jpg
alright so we got a new comp now we need is a clip so right click it agian and choose your clip by importing file.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled4.jpg
so once you get your clip drag it to the time line below.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled5.jpg
next click layer at the top, go down to enable time remaping and click that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled6.jpg
alright so theres a little box that shows up on the left side click were you want it to begin and end, little diamonds will show up under the clip lenght.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled7.jpg
next when your happy with were you put your on and off marks then click that little triangle thing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled8.jpg
alright now there two little circle that show up after you click that triangle, you click those two circles and they go down like so.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled9.jpg
so when you done with clicking the circles, now awrows will appear you pull them apart until you get what you want, you dont want to pull them to far but just till there equal.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled10.jpg
so when you get the lenght you want its time to put those circles closer to each other, as you can see when you pul them closer they make a ramp, this is what you want.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled11.jpg
so when you done with that, preview it by clicking the "0" button on your keyboard, if you want to cut some parts off you can use what you see in the pic above anything that is shaded will not render when you render it, its kindof like cutting it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled12.jpg
phewwww you made it this far were almost done, alright go to window>render queue, click that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled13.jpg
a window should appear like this, darg your comp(not the clip) over to the window like so.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled14.jpg
use these settings for "current settings".
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled15.jpg
use theses settings for "Lossless".
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled16.jpg
next click the output to (the file name you desire).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/filmersteez/untitled17.jpg
and last but not least click render then your done

Thanks for posting this tutorial DCERVENKA. I got lost on step #11 though.

I have a 5 second clip of a van driving out of a driveway. My timeline widow is 5 seconds. I did the step #10 thing; selecting my second (go back to normal) key frame and the last key frame with the shift key ... slid them down to the right. The line, as per Step #10, did drop ..... went to 40% in my case. All looks good up to that point. But then, step #11 starts with "Drag the clip farther to the right so that the out point is at the right point." I thought that means to drag the end point of the actual clip to the right? I can't. It doesn't go. I am not understanding this as the clip should be more than 5 seconds now since I slowed down 1.5 seconds of it to 40%.

Fairly new to AE, ...... any assistance appreciated. Thank you.

the second tutorial DCERVENKA posts has the pictures, however, they are too small to read, and when clicked to enlarge pop up blank. Anyone getting this tutorial to work?

actually, theres a step sort of skipped here for anyone whos interested.. in order to do a smooth ramp to slow mo, youll want to use the keyframe assistant (right click the keyframe) to select "easy ease out" on the first keyframe which smoothly transitions the current realtime speed into the slow motion speed on an "eased" curve instead of causing the speed to change abruptly . youll probably also want to change the first keyframe to a bezier keyframe.. that will smooth it out a little more. you would make the same changes to the first keyframe if ramping back up to regular sped as well. or from regular speed faster.

also as an entire alternative to playing with the bezier spline handles on the keyframes, you can just use the two steps i mentioned as well, and it will give you a smooth curved transition in a coupe clicks rather than trying to get it right with the keyframe bezier handles.

If you click on the photos in the tutorial they enlarge and are easier to read.

this is my first post, so i'm not sure if someone already answered/you already figured it out/it was in the other tutorials... but... here's some other things i thought i'd add...

probably want to make you comp with a little extra room depending on how much you will be slowing down your footage. instead of dragging the clip inside the timeline after ramping it, to get it back to it's normal out point, just double click the layer inside the timeline, which opens up it's footage window, now you can re-adjust in and out points, close that box, and render away. oh yeah, you should also probably turn on frame blending , which will create a smoother-flowing ramp
