Hello All,

It's been a while since I've been here, kind of out of the loop, doing jobs and so forth. In fact I had to create a new account. Anyway, reading about this HVX200, and drooling. Question I wonder - is there going to be some kind of inexpensive card reader to transfer stuff directly to your editing system, or hard drive, as to not tie up your camera doing these things. It would be really cool to have a reader that you could plug into your drives as to make backups quickly, etc., kind of like changing batteries. Is this something that will be needed, or will the P2 cards be less expensive than I'm imagining?

We've yet to figure out how off the shelf PCMCIA card readers will work with P2. On the current version of FCP the system could see the P2 card in a standard PCMCIA slot but not FCP. It had to be in the official reader before it would work. No doubt we'll see cheaper readers coming. And you can always use the camera to connect P2 to computer via USB2.

IEEE specs for PC cards are pretty much all the same. So they are implemented the same.

The P2 card File system format is unknow at this point, I hope it is Mac OSX compatible but I think not yet.

This is not a hardwares issue but more a software issue.

If the MAC see a compatible File System it will probably mount it. If not you will have to have a driver for that and the file system must be compatible too.

So the real question is what file system are the P2 using?

Will we have OSX drivers, P2 seem to work on most laptops PC so far, so maybe they are FAT or NTFS.

I HOPE NOT!

Linux base File System would be better for OSX compatible.

I also hope the P2 viewer software will also run a Mac OSX machine.

I belive they're FAT 32 but this is a good question for Jan. The ones I saw had no problem mounting on Mac or PC. The P2 Viewer is PC only but that shouldn't be an issue if you have FCP(and soon Avid) and if you're editing video on a Mac you should have it.
