I hope it happens but if they did it would cut into there varicam market. But the way you put it in the article they might not have much of a choice.I will pay the extra amount to the Italian boys if panny won't give us the option.
Great job on the article Michael

At the bottom of that page, there's a link to an Andromeda "enhancement" for the DVX that allows you to shoot uncompressed 4:4:4 (YUV) video. I'm not the most technically-savvy guy. Could someone tell me what the advantage of that would be? I know uncompressed is good, but how does it affect raw footage?

Here's the link: http://www.reel-stream.com/

Micheal, nice article...I like your thinking. Maybe someone will gut these cameras and rebox em into a more pro config. You need to read Scott Billups book if you haven't already.

Dam good article. I would pay for the Italian job on my future 200 if Pany dont do it. Im interested in the Andromeda as well it sounds interesting does it give the 100a HD video. and if so how does it compare to the 200.

Thanks Everyone, glad you enjoyed it.

There has been a big thread going on at the Cow all day -

Jan came by and said "" Reality Check: There are no HD lenses under $10,000, and the one at $10,000 is not the best ""

Makes you wonder how there going to put on a 10,000 + lens on a 5,995 camera.

I think it would great if these Optex like companies step in offer us the option. I would take it.

Check out the thread to read her response: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (http://www.creativecow.net/forum/view_posts.php?forumid=193)

Ummm . . .

Let's keep arguments from other message boards in those message boards . . .

This isn't the COW.

Thanks.

Both the Italian guys and andromada have excellent innovations going that would make the HDX a top cam. You looking at about 15-16 thousand for both modifications including the cam.

Huh- 'would make it a top cam'? How do we know it's not a top cam out of the box? Why not wait until it actually comes out before we try to "improve" it?

Interesting article. However, the very first line made me laugh...

"If the AG-HVX200 were a boxer, it's name would be Mike Tyson. Who can beat it? "

Ummm... how about Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield (twice), Lennox Lewis and Danny Williams.

and Robin Givens too!

Great article Michael!

I hope Panasonic is listening.

Oh well, if they are not, there's always the itallian guys to fix their mistakes.

Good question Michael.

I think she just shot herself in the foot.

P.S. By the way, I never heard about the Z1 lens modification. That would be awesome if done with the HVX. It would convert it into a "real" production machine.

Form Michael's article:

"No matter what, fixed lenses will not be as good even when compared to basic professional lenses. It's the curse of the fixed lens design. To have stabilizers, auto-focus in a short and light weight chamber is always going to compromise the lens, its optical technology and how they interact. Of course they could spend more capital to do it, but then the lens would nearly double the price of the camera."

Michael, you just nailed it! That's exactly what I think. All the people critizing the HD100 lower end lens should read this. I tried so many time stressing the importance to have a exchangeble lens, even if lower quality, because at least the option for changing it would be there. Also, as you say, chances are even the lower end manual lens in the HD100 could be better than the HVX's lens. You just nailed it in the head Michael.

P.S. I hope it was alright to quote your article Michael. If not, please let me know and I will gladly remove it.

Fixed lens are usually smaller and lighter, and to many of us, it matters. I am happy about Panasonic's camera being portable. If I wanted a big camera with a set of lens, I would get the JVC. It all depends on what you do. I never work in a studio, so I prefer fixed lens.

When I say "top cam" I'm referring to what I'd like to see Panasonic an/or innovators (andromada, mini-35, gurellia35, etc.) come up with in ways to increase the quality of what can be gained from a 1/3 chip camera. I like the idea of the JVCHD cam because of the changeable lens but do not think much of HDV. I love the idea of shooting in DVPro 50 at 4.2.2. and love the possibility even more of being able to shoot at 4.4.4.. Or for that matter, I can see that P2 cards have a great future as a buffer method for capture and storage, even though it's an expensive proposition at this time. Of course, Panasonic will come out with a brilliant cam. I have every faith that they will. That's why I put my money behind them by buying and using their cams.

There's still about 4 months of dev time, give or take 2 months of shipping and pre release hype for the cam. I seriously doubt in that time they could/would make removable lenses, plus the cost would go thru the roof. I'm sure there would be some aftermarket type of guys that would modify it for a price.

PS

Is Michael banned?

Monte, it sounds like a job for "The Italian Guys."
