hey guys I built this http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/steadycam/ a while ago for my sony mini dv cam - i wanted to replace the head with something like a quick release plate or mod it so that i dont have to turn the camera on the stick - rather i would spin the top part or something - but am kinda lost at where to start....

Get one of these.

Bogen / Manfrotto 3273 Quick Release Adapter with 3272 Plate

This is what I got and it works great:

All you do is drill a whole in an end cap for a screw to fit through and then the monopod head scews onto that. Works great, and makes it look good too.

thx for the replies guys - i like the option pookie provided as it seems to give more support - how do u find support with the monopod head waltind - im affraid having such a small base may ruin the thread....

Also - would both of these simply screw onto a 'standard' tripod screw (is this what is called 3/8)

O last of all, could i use somethign like this? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3325&item=7511462923&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I'm not sure about the quick release adapter. But the monopod head has the same 3/8" screw mount.

The quick release has a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch mounting hole on the base plate.

Screws on clean as a whistle.
