View Full Version : 3x crop mode on the FS 100?

Just out of curiosity, since this seems like best overall camera out right now. Is there an optional 3x crop mode on the FS 100 like the GH2 where one can get push in closer to the subject? That would be awesome.

Once the Berger mount comes out, I just might have to buy this camera. The Crop Mode would be really nice touch though. Seems like it's something that can be done through a simple firmware update, but who knows if Sony would do something like that.

Nope, I don't see an option for anything like that. It has some mode where it can record SD at 120fps basically, but I haven't tested that either. :) (It's like 3 seconds only, it's a very weird feature). But, I LOVE this camera. Soon I will post my review after another round of shooting in a month or so. I like to REALLY flesh out my feelings before I post. That said, bottom line, I have no regrets on the purchase AT ALL.

The reason the GH2 can do a 3x crop mode is that it has a 16 Megapixel sensor designed for stills, the FS100's sensor is more like 3.5 Megapixels, so a 3x zoom on the sensor would mean a 3x reduction in resolution.

The large, low resolution (compared to stills cameras) sensor is why the FS100 is so clean though.

There is a 3x crop feature. It's called a zoom lens.

I'd go fully manual on that 3x.....move your feet!!

Hello All,

So if I read this thread correctly, there's no way to use a B4 ENG lens on this camera unless it has a built in 2X teleconverter.

But because the sensor is a little bigger than the GH2, would the 2X teleconverter cover the FS100s complete sensor without vignetting?

I'm thinking of picking up an FS100 and am curious if my lens will work on it??

Thanks Guys!!

This would be a killer feature, take the middle 1080 of the '4k' sensor to deliver a clean 1080

I would buy tomorrow if they added this
