View Full Version : My new role......

Well we just wrapped this morning, and still a part of me is concerned about surviving the cutting room.

But.....I just finished on a TV show (already green lit by Spike TV) as a present day Nazi guard/Storm Trooper. The director made me Technical Advisor to boot after talking to him on set for 30 minutes, and would introduce me as such to the rest of the cast and crew. And personally came to me after the wrap to thank me for all the hard work I put into this production. We are now on a first name basis, too. This is a pilot, set to air in August.

But they allowed me to "make love to the camera", gave me carte blanche on ad lib lines, and allowed me to review each take on the monitor if I needed to see the take. My voice, in person, is somewhat low key. But when I take on a "command authority voice", I can be intimidating, LOL. Yelling "Raus!" and "Mach Schnell" "Pig" "Juden" and denigrating and abusing other characters, strangely comes natural. And this production is attempting to go the route of "Paranormal Activity" and using only unknown talent, such as myself. And I got to beat the hell out of the lead actor with my trunchion (stunt trunchion) and drag him off camera (in addition to several other actors)

Currently, I am in awe and humbled by the experience. Once I get the air date, I will share it so y'all can laugh at me on TV. Here's to hoping the pilot gets picked up into a series, as they have already asked if I would be interested.

And for once, I am going to get copy from a TV show I worked on.

Yes. I can't give the premise or logline out yet. But I am very intrigued where the writers can take this. And I am hopeful that it does get picked up as series.

present day storm trooper, thanks a lot for reminding me of the prequels.

maybe changing present day to alternate universe sci-fi, or post apocalyptic sci-fi.

not saying this needs to apply to all alternate universe stories, remakes, prequels, sequels.(99.99%)

note: story and story structure rant coming up.

it does sound like a second generation loss story.
writer likes wwii movies -> thinks about making wwii movies -> then makes sci-fi wwii story for the wrong reason (usually without a story structure).
writer likes old superhero comics -> tries to make a graphic novel ->then makes indie wwii alternate universe sci-fi story.

it's like the recent cops/detective, hospital drama series.

let's make a hospital drama just like er, producer likes.
few years later, hospital drama is not good any more (producer wonders why the cloned copy is not so good)
(new idea) lets make er meets africa, or whatever native place/town.
(new idea) lets make er in war zone.

point is second generation loss usually means no story structure, or reason to tell the story(writer likes something is not a reason for the audience to see it). you may find exceptions, but it's a safe bet.

note: end of rant

(new idea) lets make er in war zone.

Old idea : )

That would be "M.A.S.H." Feature first, in 1970, with (Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould) then ultra-long-running 70's-80's TV series (Alan Alda, Mike Farrell)...

Pretty much a "second generation win" in this case : )

But I do see, and agree with, your larger point about "second geeration loss". Interesting phrase I hadn't heard previously...

mash was a sitcom, and an appropriate idea for the time. a couple of neutral slackers in the army not interested in war with a lot of free time on their hands off screen. it just happens to fit the bill of a doctor/surgeon.

wouldn't consider it hospital drama, it could have been strips or sgt. bilko or makor payne.

i was referring to a newer series.

It's not what you are thinking:happy:. Me personally, I love the premise behind the show. But I cannot give it out, not yet.

But I get what you are saying.

Well, several scenes and one line of dialogue survived editing.

Very nice. Tomorrow a phone call is in order to get my copy and verify they will list me as a Tech Advisor as well as my acting role on IMDB. Here's to the series getting picked up......but I am not sure about that........

It was interesting, but not eye popping. I would have wanted more "story", less documentary.

Had 15-20 people promise to be there.......1 (yeah one) showed up. Thanks Jason, it meant a lot that you showed up. I stayed, knocked back a few more and sang karaoke after you left. That's bad, but since you left, you weren't subjected to my mangling of Eleanor Rigby and Danny Boy........you got lucky this time.........
