I searched the forms and couldnt find anything on this, sorry if I over looked it ... but

like many I'm thinking of abandoning FCP for either Avid or Premiere now ... I was curious of the differences between AVID Studio and Media Composer ... besides $2000, hah

I'm sure you get what you pay for, but it is it as a big of a jump as Final Cut Express to Final Cut Studio Pro?

Is it really just a huge dumbed down version? etc

Treat me as an infant who has never heard of Avid.

Thanks

Avid Studio = Avid's Windows Movie Maker. Completely separate from Media Composer. If you want to move up to Media Composer one day, Avid Studio won't help you at all. The dumbed down version of Media Composer was Avid Xpress Pro - it was Media Composer with features turned off. Otherwise, the interface and how it functioned was identical. Avid Studio is a different beast, aimed at consumers. Don't buy it unless you're just making home movies.

Butcher, thanks for the explanation. I owned MC but I'm also seeing the "Studio" version. I'm not sure what the difference is. Now I know.

Avid acquired pinnacle several years ago. They have kept that Pinnacle consumer editing app alive in various incarnations. Butcher is right on Avid studio wont help you learn Avid.
