I have footage on 24p that I have to edit with footage shot in other scenefiles for one project- what software will do this the most smoothly?
I have to stick to PC and currently have premiere 1.5 but have had many problems w/ dropped frames and jerks. I can't afford a Mac but am willing to get new software if it will make a big difference.

Any. You can edit the 24p footage in any NLE, because it's recorded to tape in 60i.

According to messages posted here, the pp1.5 editing in 24p is fraught with problems on its own, which are acknowledged by Adobe, no??? How do the respective software programs handle the integration of 24p and the rest- drop frames down??? how do the capture settings vary for footage shot at different settings in various programs?

If you’re going to be mixing 24p and 60i on the same timeline, you’ll do it in a 60i timeline. You can do that in any editor. Because you’ll be working on a 60i timeline, you don’t have to worry about 24p issues.

sorry if this is dense- then how should the 24p be captured- the drop down only gives me 24p option when I attach the camera- should I choose NTSC instead???
I've edited using clips from 24p and 60i and the project becomes all jagged when rendered. (Editing on the 60i timeline can't add the missing frames so how does it handle the transition?) Is there a way to avoid this jagged look in pp 1.5 when mixing???
(thanks for taking the time to answer these questions)

so final cut express can handle 24p?

Choose NTSC and bring the footage in as 60i. Edit in a 60i timeline, not a 24p timeline.
No frames have to be “put in” by the software; it’s written as 60i on the tape.
I don’t know if later versions of FC Express can edit in 24p, but earlier versions couldn’t.
