With regard to the P2 situation, does anyone know if it would be possible to record directly to an iPod? That would be an amazing option. Carry around a couple of 40 gig iPods with you and you'd have quite a bit of HD shoot time available. Thoughts?

This has been discussed in numerous other topics and we dont' know yet. But yes, it would be awesome!

There was mention of it at NAB. Not recording HD directly to the iPod, but rather moving the clips from the P2 to the iPod - I believe. There's actually an interesting article in the current issue of Millimeter magazine covering the use of a 60GB iPod for HD video work. They captured and played back (DVCPRO-HD I think) on it for 24hrs without a single dropped frame. :) Funny stuff.

does someone know how long it will approximatively take to transfer a 8go p2 card to an ipod? 5mn? 15mn? 1 hour? :)
and will the ipod suffer from a lot of transfers?
'cause i prefer to buy a 8g p2 card plus a 60g ipod than 2 8g cards ......
of course, a firestore would be fine.

I wouldn't think the iPod would suffer so much- hard drives do eventually fail but this isn't abuse. The transfer would be most likely over USB-2 from the camera with P2 cards loaded or perhaps using some as yet uninvented device for direct transfer.

In theory this would be a fairly simple device, PCMCIA reader on one end, FW or USB on the other with a chip inside to control the iPod and initiate the transfer. If you're a programmer, PM me and let's make some money! :)
