Welcome to the unofficial VG10 thread. This thread is for exchanging questions and info for those owners (past, present, or future) who do not look down on this puppy as being either inferior, lacking, or anything else that will neg out us owners :-)

OK. So who likes the stock 18-200 lens and has anyone figured out how to rack focus, zoom, etc., smoothly? Are wwe talking about rails here?

I only know about the NEX5 (same sensor), with 18-55 lens, but it has no electric zoom, like the VG10, I understand.
The good news is the zoom ring doesn't move out, with the optics, so one of those lens-gears would fit, then you have to buy the 90 degree gear thingy. The bad news is that as far as I know, the focus-ring is not calibrated - so you can't have "preset focus positions" This strikes me as a serious flaw in many so-called Prosumer video cameras.
What I have found (on the 18-55) is the close-focus isn't all that good. However, an adaptor for Nikon lenses means I have a manual lenses with calibrated focus....and frame the shot with the zoom.(er, or move).
I made a suitable lens support from guage-plate (sorry, don't know what it's called in US), but aluminium would do the same. This lens-thing is mounted on a home-brew plate and the camera mounts on the back of the adaptor. i.e. the camera is not mounted by its 1/4 inch bush. Wants:-I'd like to have pull-focus and am working on a close-up bellows unit. - I bought the leather a week ago.
It can only be a matter of time whan suitable rail kit will be available, just as this Forum has found space for a dedicated Sony VG10 area.

Question for those living in Oz:
Pricing is insane in Oz, WTF?
Aussie dollar buys USD 110c today, yet the VG10 street price in Oz is ~$3k !!!!!!
WTF????
Has anyone found a reason for this and a way around it?

Any people in NTSC-land buying the PAL version to get 25p and slow down to 24p or simply wrap 25p in 60i wrapper?

Wait a minute!!! I have a VG10 and it doesn't have electronic zoom!!! If it does I'm a complete idiot, which wouldn't surprise me....

As a thought experiment, I would like you to speculate a little bit:
How do you see this camera three years from now? What kind of progress do you see? What kind of new functions could it have? The price? Etc, etc.

I just bought the VG10 and I already have a problem with it. I cannot disconnect the DC plugin jack from the camera. Is there a release button somewhere on the camera that the manual left out? I'm pretty good about gadgets but, this is a first for me.

I'm sure you all know the V20 is coming and it does 24p.

It'll be my 'd' camera by then, but if you asking me to speculate on a VG40-to-be, it might cost the same, have a 24MP sensor with binning, 3D 100-pt autofocus, quad-core, dual RAID-able slots, collapseable lens mount, 3 mil dot screen, two xlrs, and an HDRx-variant...
