View Full Version : Avid Startup Service Error

Just installed Avid Xpress Pro - went fairly well save for an error with the Avid Startup Service. An Avid window appears for a second on system boot-up, which is accompanied by two beeps, then disappears. On further investigation, I see that in the Event Viewer, it reads:

"Avid Startup Service terminated unexpectedly"

Checking out the actual service itself in the Services section of Windows XP, the service is set to automatic but I've disabled it for now.

Anyone have the same problem? Everything works otherwise so far. No luck on the Avid forums - a number of users are reporting the same thing, with no solid resolution.

What your system configuration? Do you have a paralell port zip drive by chance?

Hello, Michael, thanks for the reply. I don't have a parallel port zip drive, but I know what you're referring to. I was checking out the Avid forums, and I see that others have reported the Avid Startup Service errors, although not as much as the SDM Service one.

I'm suspecting one of my storage drivers for now. I recently updated my drivers thinking I should update them in preparation for Avid Xpress Pro. Bad idea I guess. Should have verified the system first since it ran fine with Avid Xpress DV 3.5 without problem. I'll report back soon. Storage wise, I have a Highpoint controller RAID card, and a Tyan Tiger MP motherboard. I think it is the driver for the RAID card or the AMD driver I have to install from Tyan. Will report back soon. Let me know if you have any ideas.
