Go here (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/motion/quicktours/filterseffects.html)

I'm looking for something (what Motion 2 calls Prism) for an effect in after effects. I'd like to create a sort of vignette effect (with a top level adjustment layer) where the edges go out of "focus" (not necessarily a blur, but where the RBG channels look like they separate).

If you go the above link, the first new effect referenced in Motion can give you a visual reference of what I'm talking about. I haven't found this effect in AE (doesn't mean it's not there), but anybody have any ideas on how to do it?

I hope that makes sense.

Looks like you can get the same effect by motion blurring your target image and displace each channel along the blur axis ... uh ... does that make any sense? That's essentially what that filter does.

You motion blur your image, and them move the green channel in one direction along the same angle as the motion blur, then move the blue channel in the opposite direction. Hope that helps.

Sounds good, I just can't figure out how to move the channels (or separate them on an axis of some sort). How do I go about doing that?

Okay, I admit I'm not much of an After Effects user ... I'm used to node-based compositors like Shake and Digital Fusion, but we don't have forums for those, so I lurk here anyway. :)

I know After Effects has channel operators, so I guess you could just duplicate the clip and disable all of the unwanted channels for each layer. (That's kind of a cheesy suggestion; I hope someone else has a better idea!)

Hey Pais, yeah I thought that too. :)

THAT could take a while... Maybe a third party plugin or something?

Yeah, I guess if you wanted to do it for more than one clip, it'd get old really fast. :/

I remember seeing lots of cool effects-type plugins for After Effects from time to time, but I never remember what they are because I don't use it ... but I'm sure they're out there.
